So why does my coolant flange have 3 bolts?

IMG_6166.JPG FINALLY got parts and was reminded of a question that threw me when I pulled it apart. The bike has 2 holes on the flange above the thermostat.

    The gasket has 2 holes.

Why does the flange have 3? This seems abnormal.

I don't know, that seems odd, I have never replaced that gasket before

There's nothing there to bite into except a rub spot where the previous owner tried lol. I'll take a pic later.

    I would suggest a bleeder/drain bolt.

Nope. I swear it threads into nothing and it's on the far side of the gasket. IMG_6185.JPG
