So today again I had to sit and instruct , but she’s learning slowly , can’t complain got some feedback on the white bike I had for sale about it having scratches so now it’s been painted, and yeah going way over the top with it just for a seller anyways is what it is
Got the Triumph going today, so now I can spend more money on it. Not that plan to spend money if I'm keeping it (so far, about a grand, just a fairing needed). I saw James' post above and thought I need other people to build my bikes. I just don't have the time (and funds) to do them properly. There's one bike I've been building properly, the YZ 250, which has taken 3 years to get a motor in the frame, and still needs about a grand or more put in to it. And by the time I finish, I'll need to rebuild it again! The CBR 400 needs tidying up, the ZXR needs an unknown (but substantial) amount of work, there's half a dozen other projects, and even the Triumph should have some bits. But I have other priorities this year, so I might just have to let some things go as is.
Spent the morning playing with @James Mclaren mc22 race bike , then had to run the misses to the emergency room again with a kidney stone (2nd day in a row) then spent this arvo playing with a intruder 1500 , this was donated as non runner . I used my daughters fiesta to jump start it but it wouldn’t go , I bought home a big 4x4 battery that we use to start bikes at the shop and she started on one pot . Battery shop was open today , had to buy a big 16 amp battery for her , now she is purring on both , Hats to believe we get 45 horses out of a 250 , but Suzuki make a 1500cc that has 60 horses
Still wondering if there's any truth to honda doing another run of pistons for mc14e engines. I missed out on the last batch, not worth the shipping from CMSNL for 1 piston Otherwise yesterday was me cleaning up the mess from wrenching on the CR and starting work on the 900 hornet. I'm convinced I did something wrong, suddenly at ~40k miles the rear rotor is beyond wear spec? Lesigh. Galfer being swapped in since cheaper than OEM. I guess I shouldn't complain, cheap 'maintenance' every in my book. I see the pile of parts (with junk case half) that I received from AU every day and it just...sucks bad! Then I go out to the garage and see the original engine sitting on the bench, and wonder if I could get away with resleeving that one hole/throwing a fresh piston at it. Of course going through all of that work for 1 cylinder seems like a freaking waste and is what has kept me from digging into the teardown/inspection phase. If anyone has 4 new OEM pistons for an mc22 for sale, you are my hero!
Well, I packed a couple of ZXR 250 in pieces into a box ready to take away, hesitating about loading all the bikes, thinking about fixing the VTR 250, but I don't have time for that much work, better off selling some bikes and buying one that's running (got my eyes on one). But I did pull the carbies off Buzz zxr, see if he'll come back to life.
I was planning on selling my Across. I've been listing it for very, very low prices, but I keep getting tyre kickers, people asking if it runs and rides (what do you mean this 250 dollar bike isn't already roadworthy?! **** you!), and people asking for a further discount due to me not offering a roadworthy. One guy literally just spent 20 minutes trying to convince me my bike wasn't even worth selling. I cracked it and asked if he wanted to buy the bike or not. Turns out he wasn't even in the market; just wanted somebody to harass. Anyway, sob story over, thinking I might just restore it once more, club rego it, and see how long before I crash it again. Today I pulled my fairings out of storage, and gave them a good scrub. Planning to 3d print some smaller parts like spacers that are a bastard to buy. Just trying to work out which parts I need to get original and which parts I can get aftermarket for. Bike needs a squirt of starter fluid in the air filter to get going if it hasn't been started in a day or so. Can't figure out why. I'm thinking maybe I need to do a carb rebuild.
Finishing off this murdered out 22, being sent to nsw for someone wanting one, she’s a bit rough but I have enough off to a new home
Making videos is hard work- I’m behind on updating my project log... but I just got this back from the coaters today for my ZXR, and I’m all excited now so I wanted to share. Mounted pics soon! It’s probably good I coated it when I did- looking at the surface pitting, it’d have rusted through at some point soon.
Found a place in AU whose website showed 3x MC22 pistons on hand. Fired off an email in hopes that they would have a 4th piston. "Pistons and rings!" they said! Do I know who I am dealing with?! Website is poorly organized, easier to just search by part #. Better do some research before I commit. Dig and dig and dig. By the sheer number of results found one would likely think legit, but I wasn't sold. Sinking feeling. I wanted to find someone that had dealt with this company before, good or bad. Then I found a post from @kiffsta saying BK Performance is just around the corner from his shop and they have everything. I'm obviously digging in deep on this one. Suggestions for items to replace while I have the cases apart? Seal Kit A, Seal Kit B, Hondabond 4, bearings if/where needed... oil pump chain maybe?
My local ceramic coater quoted me 200USD (so like, 260AUD) for the manifold, the wideband collector I built, and the v-band that holds them together. Did it in "titanium" ceramic.
Y’all want a laugh? I went to install my gorgeous exhaust on the bike. Got the manifold on. Got the v-band and collector on. grabbed my oxygen sensor. Didn’t fit. not only did I apparently weld the bung in upside down, it’s a pipe bung and the wrong size entirely that shouldn’t have ever been where it was. I am annoyed- but trying to laugh about it. Just cut it out, Amazon will have me more tomorrow- guess I gotta get the thing recoated now. That is gonna cost.
Had an interesting day, my mates gt380. Is done so I arranged a rwc , yesterday he picked the paperwork up and went to the transport department , alas they Wouldn’t register it without seeing it . Today he came in and we put the bike in the van and drive it to Queensland transport , they came out for a look and said it can’t be registered without a L01 plate , loaded the bike back into the van and set about finding an engineer , we found one 2 streets away from the shop, turns out he is on holidays in tassie. Mae found a mobile guy who was in the area, he Popped in and did the plate for me at $220 , I riveted them plate to the bike then loaded it , raced back to Queensland transport and he was able to register it. # winning I am not a huge fan of Personalised plates , but he was able to secure MY380 in black with red letters , looks killer
I wish! I have the tap, but not the drill. It takes a 16.5mm drill and I don’t have anything above about 10-12. In addition, the bung is 22mm OD- it’d leave me with real thin walls even if I was successful. The standard one I measured is 25.
Ordered more parts from @maelstrom. Asked BK Performance if they had other parts I need. Took me hours to figure out what I could buy in US vs AU/JP (saves a ton of money buying them here.) Stared at the broken cases vs the overheated engine. Said screw it! Get the case welded, check the sleeves, get it done already! I'm assuming I'm not wrong avoiding the overheated engine? I couldn't find any warp in the head, but I'm not a machinist so I could be wrong!
You'd still have a couple of mm of material, give or take, so I'd try it. If it doesn't work, you go back to plan A. Or can you get a different O2 sensor to fit? My 2cents
