Info QLD Laws to change to allow filtering

So listening to the radio this morning and heard something about QLD lane filtering laws to change so I googled it and BAM!

New rules for motorcycle helmets
Currently, motorcycle riders on Queensland roads are required to wear a helmet that complies with Australian standard AS1698 or AS/NZS1698. From early 2015, the range of motorcycle helmets approved for use in Queensland will be expanded to include those complying with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) 22.05 standard.

 

Great info and great news for commuters, you can travel on the hard shoulder as well as filter

 

Don't know what others think but I am encouraged by some of the more recent decision makers taking some positive steps to be bring us in-line with other nations. It's no longer a case of "lights on, nobody home". Perhaps there is some hope for us yet. (am I being cynical?????)

So I lane filtered for the first time today. Nice big slot between the two lanes at a set of lights. I thought 'Wish I could go through, WAIT! I can as of yesterday!' then I got to thinking......

It says on page 7 that you must hold an Open licence for the class of bike being riden. Now, heres where I get confused.

Ive been licenced for car since 2002, so I obviously Open there.

Ive had my RE licence since 2008. So would I not be an open licence holder here? (considering I was O when I got my RE licence).

Or Is an RE licence considered a P licence for a motorbike no matter how long you've had an RE licence for? Ive actually wondered this for awhile....

 

you are on a open license and as long as you are only riding a lams approved bike you are all good. if you are riding a bigger bike, then you are classed as a learner on that bike and need L plates and a supervisor and all that stuff.

 

After your first year of re you are then allowed to pillion, drink to 0.05 so therefore are an open re rider

 

Cool, so I am an open RE licence holder. Splitting here I come.

We have PB in the ACT for open car licence holders after 6 months on P plates. Still restricted to Learner and Novice Approved bikes for 6 months but no need for P plates.

I'm on my full motorbike licence as of today!

 

After my morning commute I'm glad the filtering trial started in the ACT yesterday. Big traffic snarl on my way into work today due to a crash.

 

I caught a green light all the way home today. Was really looking forward to show boating as I went past all the cages. Haha! Suckaaaaars!

ok, just as a FYI, someone on a diff group got pulled up by a cop today for lane filtering. the cop did not know the new rules, so be ready with a phone to go to the QPS website to show them if you get pulled up. she filmed him not knowing the rules.

 

Which is odd. Because they are there to enforce the laws. So you would think they would know them. Or they were just trying to catch someone out who didn't know the law.

 

the cop said, how am i meant to know all the laws. well, we are meant to know them all, you would think the cops would know them

 

Without wishing to take any ones side, think the chiefs are to blame for not alerting the troops of the changes. Lets hope the message gets through to all sooner rather than later.
