    The liners swap in and out pretty easy on those...Couple of months back I had to make up a couple of good barrels from several with broken liners....DON"T ask....Look for a damaged barrel with a couple of good liners. Rods break on these quite commonly so something will turn up.
    Anyway, a biggish LPG torch on the inside of the damaged liner and after a few minutes heating the liner will drop out. Putting a better one in is pretty much the reverse but a weight on the top as it cools will help hold things in place.
    I'd recommend a skim across the top afterwards - just the minimum to get things level.

    I'd scour jauce and the like to see if you can get something from japan before you give up... ZXR400's are rare beasties and fixing one now, while costly, might pay dividends down the line

    I have seen a few barrels overseas, I had a budget in mind to get it on the road, that was $1000, plus my purchase price. Alas, it's now going to exceed my spend and I have decided to strip it seeing as though I am in the business , might help get a few more running again.

    I'm sure another will pop up when I am a bit more financial

    Oh no!!
    It's such a shame to see this relegated to the parts bin :( I have such a love for 400's and these are incredibly rare in Australia.

    Hopefully you score another one soon that runs

    I assume oversize pistons are outside the budget?

    I agree it's a shame to see it broken down to parts but economics need to take priority lest you manufacture a money pit

    The Barrels were very bad. Originally, I thought they might be okay with a hone, but once Chris put them through the water blasting all the affected metal stripped away and left some very deep (2-3mm) gouging. A couple of the valves were also water effected. Again, didn't look too bad when cleaned on the wheel, but the water blaster really gets into the metal and leaves you with a much clearer idea of the actual condition of the part. I agree with the sentiment that it is a shame the bike had to be parted out, but it's Chris' business and his decision. I can also vouch for this bike as a definite low mileage unit. The Odometer said 32,000 and judging by the cams, pistons and other bits I was able to measure or study, it was exactly that. The rings were stuck on 2 pistons, but this can be "fixed". Anyone who knows Chris will know he's probably already bought another ZXR400 (or has his eye on one).
