Well, some bright spark has decided to set up a share space for bikes

    https://www.rideanywhere.com.au/

Concept is that you join up, post some pics of your bike and set a daily rental rate , interested riders agree to meet , pay and you handover keys and let a stranger ride away. But good news, there is a feedback system.

As of now, 2 bikes available nationwide , a z1000 and a dirt bike, both in Melbourne

IMO , This has worts all over it

I'm sorry, did I miss something? You want me to flog the ring piece out of your bike? Okay sounds good, and no worries if I crash it coz the insurance company will just fix it. I'll just leave it where I crash and you can pick up the pieces. What was the name of the app again, "Call me Stupid"?

This post brings back memories of when I was 17, we would hire the mopeds at Surfers Paradise, 20$ the whole day, we then would head straight offroad & out into the rainforest for hill climbs, creek crossings, jumps, wheelies & racing. A quick hose off at the servo always got your deposit back too despite all the rattles & creaks.

I wouldn't hire out my bikes, they "one-owner" bikes: only one, the owner, knows all the nuances (problems) to bike and how to get by with them.

There are stricter and more regular inspections for hire vehicles, as I understand it, and I'm sure more costs to pay. There are already motorcycle hire companies, I don't think we need uber-hire. The registration would even moves to become "commercial " rather than private. Too many issues. Or do what I just did: sell them the bike and buy it back later (I've bought at least 6 bikes back so far)/

Well most of us will have witnessed with the pushbikes that you can get hold of easily - apparently a lot of them end up at the bottom of various rivers, up trees, in the bush and generally scrapped and trashed
