    Hey all

So I'm optomistically hoping to get either my FZR or ZZR on the road at some point this year. Being from the west of Ireland, inclement weather and lashing rain followed by blazing sunshine on the same day is not unusual, so other than some sub zero temps during the winter mornings. all year round is largely the same!.

With this in mind and to motivate myself further, I decided to purchase a new helmet as my old lid is over 25 years old. I checked the sizing on my old full face helmet and ordered the same size in a flip face from

    https://www.thevisorshop.com/en/LS2-FF902-Scope-Skid-Flip-Front-Helmet-BlackYellow/m-29578.aspx

So 3 days later, package arrived, big smile on my face, opened up the box and took out the helmet.

A couple of things were immediately apparent
    1. The build quality of the helmet is far superior to what was around the last time I really looked at helmets - the padding, visor and vents etc are a lot better than I expected
    2. The flip face helmet weights a lot more than I thought.
    3. There were plenty of accessories in with the lid along with a helmet bag etc. so I was well impressed.
I went to put on the helmet and to my surprise it was too tight. so I checked the size against what I ordered, put on my old helmet (which still fit if a bit tight) followed some google advice and decided to get the next size up. I guess being 25 years older and a at least 1.5 stone heavier could contribute to the change in size. (its not from wisdom I'm reliably informed by my missus ;)).

So waited about 10 days for the replacement to arrive and low and behold its still on the tight side.

So I wanted to ask some advice from the folks here. Is there a difference in size between a full face and an equivalent flip up helmet? e.g do you need to order the next size up? or has padding improved so much that you need to allow for this as well?

    comments and feedback appreciated
    thanks

My experience with helmets is to try them on first. Size and shape varies between brands and even between model ranges. An AGV has a different feel to a Shoei for instance. Modern helmet fits, tend to be a bit on the tight side also.

A good fitting helmet should push lightly on your cheeks , better to have a firmer fit than a loose helmet from a safety perspective

    As above
I had the same HJC for years untill I lost nearly 30kgs thru illness awhile back .... it was then very loose
on my head , and needed replacing anyway
I went to the local bike shop and tried a few different ones on , 1 size smaller (and let them think I was going to buy , but went online for a better deal) ..... as said above and with all clothing , shoes etc ... with every different brand sizing is not consistent

I bought another HJC and it was a little tight initially but they do 'wear in' ..... and now Ive put a few kilos back on lately it still fits snugly and is fine
