cleanig cast aluminium wheels

    doing a tidy up on my old faithfull so wheels are the present go.trying to get ingrained brake dust off so can refurbish.have tried degreaser,ct18 truck wash. aldi detergent,nylon? scuffing pad and bbq cleaner.all made some improvement but not up to what i want before new silver metallic paint and clears.any ideas will be appreciated.

    You'll need to scuff them with wet and dry to give the etchprimer something to stick to
    I'd give them a rub back with 320 and lot's of water, then grey etchprime, let it dry then 3 or 4 coat's of silver followed by the clear once the silver is dry

    thats the plan. have got them a lot improced but still some ingrained brake dust eaten into the alloy. slow and tedious process.thanks for the advice.

    I've got several of these, including one that fits onto my small 125mm angle grinder/sander polisher, which I cannot find on bunnings right now

    These are all drill based in various sizes

    For what it's worth, I've used the grinder based on to remove loose paint on some outdoor furniture before repainting and it was gentle enough to not damage the timber - they may assist you in getting rid of the top most layer quickly without damaging or marking the aluminium
