shane, i do not know who did the cover, probably the editor, but it was not what the vjmc is about. the membership is growing each month and the bank account is healthy and as i handle the finances i know. the word has reached the president and the next national committee meeting i am sure it will be discussed.

 

Sorry @risky, my words do sound harsh - there are lots of organisations with members hunting for more members in different ways. Good to hear that it's doing well; I hear the magazine market is tough. The cafe racer (as well as bobber, etc.) market segments are growing, like it or not, and they include the classics. I hear there's a company that get old Triumphs and do bobber/hardtail conversions, then sell them for a lot - like $15k or more! The only advantage I can see is they are pre-ADR, so no indicators and minimalist. So people have different interested, and sometimes they overlap. Even if the readers might disagree, it's what is happening to the bikes they are interested in. Good luck.

I thought it would be cool to put knobbies on the VTR and ride some dirt roads.

 

My boss has a firestorm (VTR1000) streetfighter project with knobbies on it, I reckon it will be good fun when finished.

I know the seller, he had it in the local dirt drags. He now has an LS1 V8 bike instead....

@Murdo I probably wouldn't go full knobby, but adventure tourer tyre or like the tyres on VTR above. I have a dirt driveway of about 200m, so I do ride road tyres on dirt, even taken the ER-6f mustering cattle. It is high-speed braking and maneuvers that I don't trust. I grew up on dirt, and still have dirt bikes, I just don't trust road tyres on dirt, and bike confidence makes a big difference - so long as is isn't overconfidence, that's dangerous, too.

 

Guy local to me has a streetfightered Hayabusa - with knobblies. Does that make it a dirtfighter ?
He's a big fella, works out regularly - and spent a lot of time in the N.T. Could it have been the heat ?

On the same subject, a few years back at scrutineering for the Burt Munro, I saw a beachracer GSXR1100.
Long travel suspension - and knobblies. All I could do was walk around it and shake my head.

 

Well, it is in the spirit of the original cafe racer... But I don't like it, either
