Most 250/300cc bikes these days are for the LAMS market so it depends if your looking for that as it will usually mean "fast" wont be in the mix
Then u have the bikes common on here , FZR250,ZXR250, CBR250 which are fast (and LAMS) but I wouldnt put them in the reliable bracket
I guess the Honda would be the better choice there as many people race them with a few upgrades and theres plenty of them

Fast, reliable, good handling and cheap ...... nothing :D

For my money I would be looking for either a Kawasaki 300 Ninja or a Honda CBR or CBF 300. The Kawa will be the cheapest and twin cylinder but plenty about, even the Versy's model, and are good handling, light and comfortable to ride. The Honda is my choice (I am not biased, really) as I like single cylinder bikes, and even though made in Thailand I think they are just a little bit better put together.
Yamaha R3s are too race focused and I wouldn't even look at a Suzuki GN or TU. They would be reliable but slow.
    Just my opinion.

The bike was in Queensland at that time , the owner was moving at the time when we first made contact. Commented that when they where settled , would make contact , but it's been a while , nothing heard since then.

There is also the Honda CB400SF.... early ones (carbies) are reasonably priced... handle well and have a good amount of go.
You can also add in VTR250 to the mix... but a 4 cylinder sounds way better :)

If you want a bike that is not hard to find, not terribly complicated, fun to ride and a reputation for being reliable it is hard to beat a Kawi ZZR250.

was looking at one not so long back but though cheap needed a fair bit of work ... here in aust only some 250s are worth the cost of working on them

Honda cbr250r or rr (MC19 or MC22) have a strong following in Australia. Lots of resources and parts.
But not going to be the same as a highly strung RS250R.
