Well, the discs arrived today and I have to say I am pretty happy with them. They were nicely oiled to prevent rust and the actual disc surface is really good.. the rivets are in good condition and the best part is they are Factory Originals and NOT WAVEY....lol Bolted one up and slipped the wheel back in.. now that looks a lot better.. and the pad sits in exactly the right spot to get full contact across the whole pad. So just some spacers to sort out now and then a seal change on the forks.. some paint, the fork lowers are going black... disc centres Gold or Black? Decisions decisions.... one more item ticked of a long list.........
Looks brilliant , the discs are deffently huge. Fitting braided lines also ?. As for the centers , I've always like the gold colour myself , it gives it more class than just being black.
Yep, braided lines. I need to get some paint to match the gold spots on the calipers I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Looks great and don't change a thing. Except clean the pink writing off the fork legs, and one more thing, under no circumstances pull the front brake lever.
Hmmm I will ponder on it. I will get the spacers etc done before any painting or refreshing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Pulled the front end off the bike again today... I will drop the complete front end down to my Machinist during the week to have the spacers made up so I can try and get on with the build. While I had the discs off the wheel I took a couple of pics to show that the FZR600 discs are not that much bigger than the FZR250 and as they are both dual 4 pot calipers the overall braking wont be dramatically different. The FZR250 front end conversion has been done a number of times before so it isnt like I am breaking new ground... well not much new ground... This is showing diameter of the 2 discs. The biggest difference is when you compare the lower working part of the 600 disc to where it would have been on the 250 disc.
Nah... reality is these are the same diameter as ZXR250RR discs, granted the SRX is a little bit lighter and less powerful but I still dont think it is too far over the top... brake wise.. Well maybe just a little but they will look good
Did a bit more cleaning with the Ultrasonic today for the brakes... 20 minutes for the pads.. originally thinking just to clean them up for mockup etc but looking at them.. they might be OK for a while. Then slipped each caliper in for a short hit in the Ultrasonic bath... made a big difference. Then reassembled them. Will drop them into the machinist this week sometime. Before Pads after a quick cleanup One Caliper in the Ultrasonic bath - that was new mixture 5 minutes before this pic. When it came out of the bath One clean and one dirty Reassembling them All done
Had a little bit of a setback last week... I had my wiring harness all in place and started testing out each circuit and there were lots of issues... when I started searching through some of the wires there were multiple breaks.. burns and very corroded wires. The 3WP harness is very different to the 51Y harness in a number of areas so I started searching on Zenmarket not expecting to find anything worthwhile.. Then I find a really good one... well at least it looks like a good one. Now all I need to do is wait for it to arrive from Japan.. sometime in the distant future... I will be picking up my front end today as well.. brakes and spacers etc all sorted out...
Muffler offered up to see how it looks, I like the “old School” look of it, let’s wait and see how it is when I eventually get her running. Front end is back on for now, new seals coming for the forks and they plus the discs will get some new paint. Everything lines up perfectly and the forks are completely neutral and parallel so no tension at all on the front end, just as it should be. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I havent been able to find my Earth lead for the SRX... and the 3WP one seems to go to a different location on the frame anyway so time to make a new one... but do you think I can find suitable gauge wire??? I also want to make a new Starter motor cable as the old one is rock hard and is showing some green tinges on the ends... again finding the right size cable is a PITA... I think I will drop into an auto electrician during the week and see what he has... Repco and Supercheap only had up to 6mm diameter cable.. I measure mine at around 8mm
Any Jaycar's close by ? https://www.jaycar.com.au/dc-power-...h-current-power-cable-sold-per-metre/p/WH3066
I bought some aerosol cans of the colors I am planning on using on the SRX, namely “Spilt Blood” Candy for the tank rear fairing and belly pan and Gunmetal grey for the side covers. I used my spare set of rear fairings and it looks like my prep wasn’t as good as it could have been lol A little bit of fry in a couple of spots, not sure why but they will be stripped right back later on as spares. All parts were hit with plastic primer but it might have been a bit cold this morning when I did that part. The gunmetal grey is just 3 coats over 2 of DNA Rub through primer. The Spilt Blood Candy is 2 good coats over 2 of DNA Ultimate Black basecoat. I am happy with the color and the combination. Now I just need to work on the rest of the bike so I can then do the paint properly. Even with their aerosol cans you need a good respirator. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
