Hi everyone! I am Dave Green from British Columbia Canada. I have been involved with motorsports - including motorcycles. race cars and hotrods since my mid teens, over 50 years ago. I build car chassies & motorcycles frames (as well as whole builds. My racing activities are limited nowadays to running at the Bonneville Salt Flats - where we (my brother, cousin and I) have run since 1971 - and, yes, I was there during the final years when Bert Munro ran his "World's Fastest Indian" at the salt ...and I met the man in real life. Our land speed endeavours have netted us membership in the Bonneville 200MPH Club (my club entry record speed was 213.246 MPH on Aug 20, 1991) driving a very modified (but stock bodied) Chevrolet Vega. I have gone on to build and run an open wheeled car that presently holds its class speed record at 276.786 MPH - and got one of our long time team members (and friend) into the 200 MPH Club. My other pursuits include riding. My big interests are Harleys though. I have ridden this bike for over 100,000kms since I bought it. Like I said, I build frames and customize bikes too. Pictures of several more bikes that I have owned, own or are being built follow. I build frames.... This one was a soft tail Sportster - built for a person who wanted a Harley but was rather short in height (a woman). Another bike I customized - a Harley Dyna with a Heritage front end. I wanted the look of an older bike and I think I got it. Another rather radical soft tail Sportster I am building And then there is the "baby"....My daughter's first road bike. I knew about these Virago/V-Star 250s for a long time ... The local riding school has many of them. This bike, sadly, was "injured" in an accident and I am, at the present time fixing it for my daughter. She does not actually like me calling it "the baby" because that is how we referred to her until she was in her teens (and I still slip up and say it when I am visiting with relatives) ....It reminds her of being called that - so I am trying not to say it but apparently not being greatly successful. Recently, I also picked up a 1988 model Virago 250 from someone who was moving away. It did not run but looks like it will run. I had originally thought I would part it out but I picked up a lot of good used parts so I decided I will fix it up as a "guest bike" and keep it for family members to ride. As long as we have Virago 250 in our lives, which I expect to be for a long while, I will be active on this site. Thanx again! Cheers!
Great history and respect for your skills. We have members here from all over the world and all with different backgrounds and preferences in bikes, but it is a pretty good community here. Even if the Virago leaves you are most welcome to stay, there are always members who could benefit from your advice and help. Cheers Blair
Thanks everyone! To quote the words of Bert Munro upon meeting him for the first time, along with my four brothers and two of our friends - all of us from Canada - when I was a wide-eyed teenager in 1970, "It's always nice to meet another group of fellow 'loyal subjects of the Queen' "! I did not fully understood the significance of that until I realized that Australians and New Zealanders aren't really all that loyal....but Bert was a bit of a jokester ..... Thanx again!
Welcome to the forum. I've met a few people from Canada, they say it's a lot like South Australia beside's the snow
