Hey all! Had a bit of a search around but didn't have a whole lot of luck. I was wondering if anyone has had any success retrofitting a flywheel from a different model bike onto their Across / Bandit / GSXR250. This is the second time the magnets have come loose and caused a mess. Unfortunately a new one works out to be around $500NZD as they're uncommon bikes and I don't have a whole lot of faith in replacing it with a matching second hand unit that will just do the same thing over again. Thanks in advance!
Do you have any motorcycle electrician's / rewind shop's near where you live ? You could have the flywheel stripped and rebuilt, magnet's rebonded etc Otherwise the same flywheel is used on these models 1991 GSX250F 1992 GSX250F 1993 GSX250F 1994 GSX250F 1996 GSX250F 1997 GSX250F 2000 GSF250V https://www.motorcycle-doctors.co.nz/contact#.WmU7lVSWa70
Hey my67xr, thanks for the response! The bikes listed are the ones already mentioned in my post unfortunately. I was hoping to see if anyone had luck retrofitting a different flywheel from another bike, one that is not the same part number. Rebonding the magnets is something I'm happy to do myself, as I'm not too keen on paying a labour charge. Unfortunately it's a matter of actually being able to source replacement magnets! I will send a message to the company you linked and see what they respond with.
Hey mate, I ordered a flywheel from a Suzuki Across 96 model for my 97 Across, it was delivered today. I had to shop around online for a fair while before I actual found it and here it is I do have a flywheel I will be replacing with this one but it has one magnet missing (that’s why I’m replacing). You could either search on eBay for an Across that’s wrecking and they could have a perfectly good flywheel for you. I paid $200 for my one ^ alternatively I’d be happy to post you the flywheel with one magnet missing if you could somehow just replace the missing magnet with one off of yours? Just a suggestion Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey SukiMan, Thanks for the response! I should be able to make two out of one, I've sent you a pm to discuss it further
