Hey Folks, so.. I’ve replaced the shims, throttle cable and stripped and lined the tank on my Yamaha fzx250 zeal. When I start the bike with the choke out fully it isles at around 4K, when I bring the choke back halfway revs go back to around 1600. As soon as I give it any throttle or push in the choke the engine cuts out (It was doing this before I replaced the shims and other parts). I’m assuming the carbs need balancing? Is there anything else I should be looking or listening for?
What Murdo said. Mixture screws are set for a hot engine and it might be a bit cold where you are, so give it some time to warm up. Well done for getting this far and you are right about the carb balance. I wrote a guide for doing mixtures by ear but it is not easy https://litetek.co/Guide_FuelScrews.html. But you can find what works for your bike by trial and error.
You can certainly sync the carbies off the bike but you will still need to do a fine tune with them once back on the bike. If you are going to fork out for a Sync tool I would take a look at the SynchroKing. It is Aussie made and while a little more expensive that you may be able to get the Motion Pro for I believe it would be a better investment... Just my opinion though. https://raytechautomotive.com/products/synchroking-4s-mkii
Thanks heaps for sharing, motion pro was more expensive than this surprisingly. I’m a tad disappointed the synchroking didn’t pop up when I googled carb sync tool Australia! I just ordered one, love that it comes with a pouch for storage.
You can get the Morgan CarbTune for around $160 inc delivery too, and it also come's with a bag, haha https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Carbtun...m5222dff7be:g:oIAAAOSw6OFdZThC&frcectupt=true
That’s a 2 column tool. 4 column would be more expensive and I don’t know that much is coming into Aus from the UK at the moment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Search 'bench sync' or 'carb sync' here on the forum I bench synced my FZR carbs years ago and they have been fine ..... well, sync wise anyway We will see as I ordered a load of parts today from the UK.... Ive been told alot is coming by sea as what aircraft are running are filled to capacity with freight
Yep, freight is all over the shop right now. I am waiting on a couple of decals from a guy in Spain and they are not even sending Postal items to Australia right now. Sea Freight- ouch, that is 6 weeks plus clearance etc from Europe. Bummer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
No ... on the FZR Mikunis carb#2 is your base carb So u sync 1 to 2 ... then 3 to 2 , then 4 to 3 .... I think ? ... its been awhile
I’m waiting on a clutch cable and fuel filter form Yamaha Japan, it’s been 4 weeks.. likely to be another 2-3
Could be longer Anne. EMS are not shipping to Australia and I know that Yamaha are waiting on lots of imports with no firm delivery date. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I did find a work around with freight from Japan. Head cover gasket, seller offered to send via UPS.. costs a little more and not everyone will offer this but it arrived within 4 days.
Yep, I had some gear come from Japan via UPS. Wasn’t too bad compared to EMS. Hope your gear arrives quickly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Since I have a few days to spare before the sync tool arrives I might as well clean the carbs, any tips? Also, I don’t have an air compressor.
