they are dreaming .... MotoGP at Philip Island only gets about 35,000

Around 30,000 fans are expected to attend, generating 16,000 bed nights and adding $7 million to the South Australian economy during each of the three years.

That figure of 30,000 people is over the 4 days so an average of 7500 people per day may not be all that far off the mark... at least for the first event.
It is over Easter... while it will never have the aura of the old Easter Bathurst Bike races it may well go close to meeting those expectations...

I have been to Adelaide many, many times and to be honest... I really like it. You have to remember... they wont come because it is Adelaide... they will come because of the track action... Adelaide never had an issue pulling 150,000 to 200,000 people over the 3 days of the F1 when it was there and Clipsal (or whatever it will be called) is always a sell out with massive crowds.. and you only have to look at the crowds that went to the Cricket last week that Adelaide can handle big events...
I think most people find their own back yard to be boring.. but again.. they will come for the track action... not the city.
I personally think at least the first event will be well supported...as long as they get the message out there..

And trust me... Adelaide has nothing on Bathurst (V8's) and Gold Coast (Indy more specifically) for Bogan activity and older Bathurst events where at least one car each night was sacrificed to the camp-fire gods... I found all the events I have been to in South Australia to be very civilised... and Tailem Bend is a reasonable distance from Adelaide anyway...

Working in the east end I can tell you the early days of the clipsal was bad, took a few years before they culled the bad behavior, I remember all the retailers saying bring back the f1 much better class of pl lol.....The bathurst events back in the 70/80's was a male right of passage :D lost count of the morning's I woke up in the lock house or some gutter..Around here the feral ones have switched to bikes and 4WD so a 3 day track event out bush.....Hmmmmm well we will wait and see ;)

Seems like The Bend will be a great circut, with everything from push bike to top fuel dragsters. Go SA.
