Ok so i have another question that in kinda stumped with. I rode my 1988 suzuki 250 bandit last week and the chain was a bit loose, ran good no noises. I tightend up the chain today and now i have this weird noise like a grinding noise when the clutch is pulled in while riding. I put it into neutral and ithe noise dissappears. Any thoughts/ideas?
I think the chain tension is ok but ill check it again. It never made the noise before until i tightened up the chain, thats why im stumped
Might be a coincidence, if it makes the noise while stationary and clutch in, then I'd point the finger at the clutch. Like the Th3 Huntsman said, clutch thrust bearing. Try slowly pulling the clutch in, if the noise occurs as soon as there is weight, bearing, if the noise occurs only when clutch is puuled well in, then clutch issue. If it occurs only while moving, your chain and/or sprocket/s may be worn out.
Not sure for that bike, but you take the clutch cover off, undo the bolts holding the pressure plate and the thrust bear is on the other side of the pressure plate. However, I would think it unlikely this bearing would fail suddenly, so might need to check other things, too. Many bikes get you to the thrust bearing in 11 8mm-bolts, so that could be a starting point.
Did rear sprocket, chain and front sprocket. Check wheel bearings. I noticed the clutch shaft ( were the front sprocket goes on) is preety badly worn and the thrust bearing is noisy. a Does anyone have a clutch shaft for sale. Needed asap?
The clutch shaft doesn't have the sprocket on it, that is the output shaft. Big job replacing that shaft, too. Good luck.
im prettty sure i remember seeing another thread on this site where someone had to replace the bearing on the output shaft. also pretty sure they included some pictures in the thread, i think it was a zxr but should give you an idea.
