FZR250 - had work done to my bike and . . .

Thanks grey for confirmation. all 6 from fowlers are 62 e delivered and they have them in stock so since they are only across the pond so to speak they will be here relatively quickly I just need to scrape up 62 e to buy them now. The mech didnt want me using the split link chain he said its not the safest he said I should get a riveted shut one. Also my clutch issues are more than likely the chain jumping on the sprockets and said I didnt really need the kevlar clutch as such but I think ill get it anyway always good to have spares and nothing wrong with over kill ha

 

The EBC SRK034 is the only clutch kit that contains new steel separator plates, it's likely that the ones in the bike are original and will be burnt black and out of spec.

Yea I know what your getting at grey ha ha im still riding it tho at the minute I dont have a choice ive no other transport only my two feet im getting some funny looks over my grindy sawing noise from my chain and sprockets once johnny law done hear it ill be ok!!

 

That explains the bad noise then, bloody hell it must be bad, the front one looked ok, how much slack is there in the chain ? I think it should be about 10 to 15 mm on the underside in the tight spot.
Be careful with the clutch, your not racing it & it'l be a bitch in traffic if it's got too much bite.
The steel plates are usually ok in most cases & won't need replacing, hence the kits with friction plates only. Have a look at them first, if they don't look like they've blued or gone black then lay them on a piece of glass, like on your mums glass top table & see if they are flat, no buckles. It's more common to find buckled & burnt pressure plates in dry clutches, yours lives in oil & has an easier life.

 

It needs so much slack you can move the chain away from the rear sprocket by hand! Thats in the middleish of the bike the 10 or 15mm of chain play with new chain?
Well I wont be racing as in track days but it will get the odd thrashing I dont do much in traffic stop starting either which is handy. Were not that fancy will we dont have a glass top table ha ha

 

I set at about 20mm pretty much u want the chain to just not hit guide of bottom of swing arm

 

20mm or so under the swing arm about where the stand is, push it up firmly & it shouldn't touch the swing arm.
Maybe get her a new table for Mothers day & then you'll have another tool too !

 

Ill hafta put the table on hold... I had an off today im quite sore ruined my stator cover, casing, magnets, nose fairing, right hand fairings front and rear, both indicators wing mirror. not sure what went wrong mixture of bad road surface and rain add a camberd bend a boom im sliding down the road for 40 yards. Ugh it will start now the whole youl get killed off that thing etc etc but anyways im going to fix it, not going to let it bother me! But the big draw back is money now

 

That's a bastard, at least you've got time on your hands & it hurts less when your young.
It's all fixable at least your not too badly hurt, you can't buy experience so write it off to that.

Thanks guys. as my driving instructor told me your going to come off sometime and strangely enough the mech I was at lately said the same thing he has his first bike still and he had 100 mph off broke his leg and some, so I count myself very lucky and will be hell lot more cautious in wet conditions and an eye to the road surface!

Ive already set about gluing and fiberglass the body panels I might put the battle scarred ones back on for a while or I might put on the tatty but not cracked to pieces old ones.

Im trying to source a stator in ireland I dont know if I can reuse any of the old one its really rubbished even the drum bit is a bit damaged.

Is there much chance I did engine damage or anything?

 

pity you are not in oz. i bought a new stator cover for 45 and kept the old one.

 

Yea there few and far between here very rare bike, I dont suppose the stator cover is the same on 2kr and 3ln? Ive seen a few 2kr so far buy none for 3ln ill need new windings too I might get away with the drum tho
