Hi i have recently bought a 2011 liquid cooled 250r at 1st was told it was a faulty battery problem replaced the battery and has no spark my old man has had a look at the bike for me has located the coil and cdi unit but has found another black box wired into the coil i was wondering if there was security built into the bike as far as we can tell at the momment is coil and cdi are in good nick but the bike is not getting spark any advice would be appreciated thanks
could it be the solenoid under petrol tank and that also has a fuse for power circuit or could it be a starter problem?the solenoid when triggered sends power straight to the starter and if battery not strong enuff will not give sufficient voltage elsewhere.also could be starter overrun clutch slipping. check the oil sight glass to see if clutch basket turning.also have battery load tested? as can fail under load and recover. leakdown test needed. repco stores will do this if they think they have a battery sale. not all batteries are equal in output.to test solenoid[ruff]put bike in nuetral and put screwdriver across both terminals and starter should turn. if not battery or solenoid.!!! :icon_scratch:
Is the starter motor turning but no spark? If so check the kill switch. If it has a stand switch they often play up otherwise cdi or coil. Load testing the battery if it is not new is a good idea.
Thank you for all the advice will check kill switch and the bike is turning over just no spark and it is a brand new battery but I might get tested just to be sure
Battery may not have been fully charged even if new.....when I bought my new one a few weeks back the shop kept it (and my old batt) and charged them fully overnight. If youve been cranking it over and over it may have lost some oompah  And definately look for the side stand switch...may be damaged, broken wire, unplugged.
There is some marking on the lower fairing so I'll check that tomoz hopefully that's all it is and again thanks for the advice
hay guys have just loooked at the bike and there is no stand switch have check fuse and solenoid and is all good we have norrowed it down to the mystery box i have removed it from the bike and it has a part number on it is there a listing on the web for part numbers out of the megelli?
no boxes attatched to coil on either of my megelli,s[liquid cooled]. try starting it with the box removed or give sinh a call. just replaced battery in the 2nd bike and starts now no problem.see how your battery is, auto leckies will do it gratis if you take the battery in.
I have the air cooled version, but it may be the same on the water one.I think the black box you are talking about is the voltage rectifier-regulator which is used to charge the battery. Does the starting solenoid tick, and nothing else? Can you push start the bike - do the lights/guage start to dim after running it a while? Could be the starter motor is dead, if you cannot even push start it.
Have worked out the issue it was the black box have since worked out it is part of the cdi setup on the bike thanks to sinh at motorsports imports was very helpful and also gave me a price for the part straight away mow just to buy n put it in thanks all the guys for the advice and help
if a hot start problem then adjust the valves, inlet 6thou exhaust 8thou.takes load off the battery and starts hot or cold.side benefit appears to be more power.doing it to both bikes.starter is quieter as load removed and had no indication apart from hot starting hit or miss.been spoilt with hydraulic lifters on cars.
Aye guys Ordered the part I needed on friday off Sinh. He was going to send it out on friday ,but he was informed after he got off the phone to me that they were sending a newer version of the cdi to him on monday (I was already getting a newer version then the one I had, which increased torque and efficiency) He has held off on sending it till today as newer one also increases hp a lil and he wanted to test it, so will hopefully see the part in the next few days and have it running again Thanks for all the help and referring me to Sinh . I would recommend him to mates with a Megelli as he was very knowledgeable and extremely helpfull and friendly. I will let you all know how it goes. Cheers
