does sound like main jets arent doing their job, someone was suggesting some engine cleaner awhile back to soak your carb parts but i forget what it is called. Just take it all out let it soak then hit it with air. wait, was it dieing when accelerating with choke off?
OK, finally I managed to remove all pilot jet. They were all 4 stuck. I bought as well one set of wire cleaning tool from supercheap. The pilot jet has one symbol like a square and the number 30 at the size. I guess it's the size. They look fine, all four you can see light coming through, even before cleaning. I cleaned all holes, channel, entry, everything in the carburettor. Tonight I'll reassemble the carbs and give 1 more try. Anything else you guys suggest to do it? Thanks all for the tolerance off all.
Hi Marco Call your local Suzuki dealer and ask them how much 4 new ones would cost, the heads on those are toast, you would hate to get them stuck in there Cheers Chris
Those pilot jets are no good if all the heads are like that, you will need to replace them. When there damaged like that it will affect the way the fuel flows through them.
Yea they look like crap ..... we forgot to mention that they are soft brass so u have to be carful when u extract them....but if they are stuck they will crumble anyway. The 'square' symbol is the Mikuni logo .... means they are genuine and yes the number is the size
Stop at mcas and suzuki shop in Sydney and they don't have it. The guy from mcas told me there is someone in south australia who sells mikuni carb jet. You guys know something/someone?? 3 of the jet were already stuck and f()kd. I cut a screw drive to fits exactly the jet size head and removed the 4th.
Wonder if the inlet needles are sticking, floats could be worn & tilting & jambing the needles etc It does sound like a blocked jet or fuel passage in the carb body somewhere
I'm still waiting for the new pilot jet to arrive from Suziparts. As soon I get the new part I'll update here. I believe in maybe 2 more days of waiting.
Just some useless info, we have a couple of NSR 150's, single cylinder 2 strokes. The registered one that is in regular use started playing up & it was a carby issue, cleaned & cleaned & cleaned it, blew it out over & over, wasted a whole can of carby cleaner & no different, swapped the carb for another & it was perfect & still is. It beat me & the carb is shelved never to be used again. So if you get sick of it a cheap fix is another set of carbies, I bought a set for a ZXR 750 from Metropolitan Spares in Syd for $150, I thought that was cheap, solved all my problems easy.
Also check the vacuum lines that lift the slides, could be a split or perished hose where they push on somewhere or even a split diaphram
That's my second option! From ebay I could find some carbys and as well I can check with motorcycle wreckers bike shop around sydney our outside. Thanks for the help.
Check those vacuum lines before you spen any money, I wouldn't mind betting your problem might be a leak & not lifting the slides.
I found one of the hose breathing crushed and will replace it as well with the new pilots jets. If by any chance this doesn't work, do you believe that's possible to unblock the jet channel? I already empty a full can of carb jet and part cleaner on it.
that looks like a contributing factor, to flush all jet channels compressed air helps ALOT. so if you can get hold of an air compressor please do.
Not to add another dimension to this but how is your air filter? Bikes tend to be sensitive to air flow, so if it is choking up there it may contribute to the problem you're having when cranking. Keep at it though, you're almost there
New fuel filter. Was one of the first thing changed. Man, I hope I'll fix it soon because I miss a lot ride my bike. Almost 2 months between my garage & mechanics.
Don't give up, that hose could be your problem, the vacuum pressure is very small & doesnt take much to interfere with it. The symptoms just seem to point to something like that however your carbs do need a good clean & make sure you use a good paper or brass fuel filter not a plastic strainer type & change them regularily like every time you register it. You'll be in for a pleasant surprise when you get back on it as she'll go better than you remember & all thanks to your own efforts & you've conquered the age old fear of carburettors. Also buy some new screw drivers to install your new jets, take them to the shop & fit them to the jets or you'll just end up with more butchered jets, or file your old ones up nice & square by hand not on a bench grinder.
