Wonder what kind of numbers the AU model is going to get. They neutered it for the US and Canada as far as I can tell.

Might be California model perhaps? What is the reason for the restriction?

In any case it's looking like one of these will be my next bike. I actually sold my MT09SP a while ago, right now I have a 2010 Versys 650 that I got cheap from work

    Sounds like a plan

It's pretty good with a fresh set of tyres on it, the old ones were worn way square on the back and triangled on the front. I put a set of Michelin Road 6's on it, they were expensive even at staff price. Tyre prices have gone up a lot.

Front forks were set way too stiff and the rear shock isn't great, but it's a direct bolt on from frame to swingarm with no linkage so it will never feel amazing. Might throw a YSS unit on it depending on price.

I'd done forks, brakes and steering bearings on it already as it was the bosses' loaner bike for customers before I bought it. Boss got it cheap as it had a dead tip over switch which took a while to find. Just needs a fresh chain/sprockets and it will be a solid daily hack or scrub basher with some off road tyres. Oil/filter and usual service items done too. Will have to do the air filter, plugs and throttle balance at some point (the rabbit hole never ends!!)

Incidentally it runs the same tyre sizes as the new ZX4R does, 120/70 and 160/60

Noise and lesser extent emissions. For over 10-yrs now, U.S. high-performance models have been crippled. Restricted intake tracts with foam to reduce intake noise. Extra baffles in mufflers. ECU programming with non-optimal maps. CBR1000RR-R SP is down -48bhp compared to R.o.W models. It started in 2009 with CBR600RR using crippled ECU maps in high-end compared to year before.

Good business for the aftermarket to get them back to what they are supposed to be.

Yeah! But you have to do it yourself too. Commiefornia has forbidden shoppes from modifying anything to do with ECU and emissions. About 16 other states have adopted CA's emissions standards and is locking down stock setups. Grr.... Luckily all the new ECUs are re-programmable. Just need source for non-USA maps.

rumor has it Graves has remapped the ECU already and got it back into the proper range. but rumors are hard to believe until we have proof. Closest proof I have is their instagram post of them dynoing one (they do not show numbers/graph in the post, only their exhaust system/back of the bike)

Here in Aus they are probably going to go after the LAMS market in much the same way Triumph did with the Trident and Tiger Sport 660.
It all depends on the market they are trying to hit.

What will they have to restrict the power to?

I know there's a power:weight ratio for a LAMS bike, just don't know what it actually is

EDIT: So I just found it 150KW/Ton
The weight for the calculation is the bike weight [dry/semi wet/wet unknown] plus a nominal 90KG rider weight - assuming dry weight
Claimed Power output seems to vary a lot - going with 57KW

    So 278 [KG]/1000 = 0.278 x 150KW = 41.7KW for LAMS qualification

    AND

It looks like they've already got that power to weight ratio sorted

This article is informative with actual submitted power output data
    https://www.motorcycle.com/new-mode...does-the-2023-kawasaki-ninja-zx-4rr-make.html

Expect a de-restriction frenzy in due course

@ruckusman probably makes sense to target the LAMS market. Not a lot of sense chopping into their own super sport market.

The ZX4R and ZX4RR are not listed in the LAMS category on Kawasaki's website. I'd rather they didn't neuter the bike for LAMS compliance.

It's a very lucrative market, so many threads on forums - what's the fastest LAMS bike, what's the most powerful LAMS bike etc etc

I notice they haven't given it a huge 180 back tyre, so it should go round bends and corners like the 400's of the late 80's and early 90's

It will be interesting to see what the market reaction is and if there's a response from the other OEM's with a 4CYL 400 sportsbike

Honda supposedly have a new CBR400 in the works based on the fuel injected CB400 engine

If I were in the market I'd be hoping the same, but a LAMS version and a full power version would significantly increase marekt potential
