Hidey-ho neighbour. I'm working on a 3LN6, just scoping the damage! Carbs are needing a cleanout before it fires up. Sure there'll be more - the fuel tap Off position had a leak, so the eng was lubed by something the consistency of diesel. And black plugs looks like it was ridden that way. Here's my collection of lemons (and yup, the Brumby is included!)
Looks like you got a nice one. Do a full service. Especially check the valve clearances. The poor things have a bit of history of being neglected mechanically I think. I have a couple of engines here and used to work in a Yamaha shop for a few years. If looked after I'd expect it to run sweet for years.
Welcome A 3LN6 is quite a rare beast Interested to see if you can answer one question on the 3LN6 - does it have an oil pressure gauge - just something which I read recently BTW for your work/restoration it's worth making your own individual thread so that information and replies don't get crossed over and become confusing
Going by the Part's list for the 3LN6 and 3LN7 it still has a water temperature gauge, Part number 3GM-83590-00, ORB 4TX-83590-00 https://en.impex-jp.com/catalogs/mo...-blue-nbb-00km-japan-2483/meter-s-101030.html
Welcome, not many of those about. Check the carbs to make sure they are 3LN6 before you order any bits and pieces. The needles are held in place differently to all the other models and the slide housings have a sealing ring. https://litetek.co/Carb_Kit_Yamaha_FZR250_3LN6.html Our part SH-002 on this page. Motorcycle Spares Warehouse might have Keyster kits for them as well. Cheers Blair
Interesting, thanks for the info, is there a second oil warning light - page 52 of this schematic shows what looks to be an oil pressure sensor on the bottom LHS of page, with the oil level sensor bottom centre of page https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?resources/yamaha-fzr250-3ln-parts-schematics.167/ Anyway it's not vitally important, just something which had me wondering
Looking at this page I'd say yours is definitely a 3LN6, engine at least https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/fzr250-model-descriptions-and-identification.6668/
My valve clearances are fine, but carb o/haul didn't go so well - first thing I see are hexhead screws over the needle jet corroded thru on a couple. Fallen off at 1 thread point. Think I'd like to hand over for reco.... anyone in Melb do this pls?
Do you need some of these ? https://www.motorcyclespareswarehou...ock-holder-screw?_pos=25&_sid=abe23236c&_ss=r
Part 16 on the diag! Oh, my, faith is restored (tho' still on the lookout for a prof, owing to worry on removing the stub).
Part number 15 is the screw that hold's the emulsion tube in https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-d...fzr250-19068/2kr0-768315/carburetor-13355646#
That diagram ^ is of 1987 2KR carby's, but the same emulsion tube screw is used on both the 2KR and 3LN carbys For 3LN6 emulsion tube's they may be harder to find as they're obsolete now I reckon this carby kit is for either the 3LN6/7 or the Zeal FZX250 but the seller wont tell me what jet's are in the kit ? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-Set-1...899682&hash=item445920fed6:g:n9UAAOSwn2lenUb2 Zeal carby kit (emulsion tube is different to the 3LN6/7 emulsion tube) https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32957697928.html
Carb overhaul completed. Still not firing, even with StartYaBastard sprayed into throats. Good sparks, and resistance of 33kOhm plug-plug is exactly what the FZR400 coil&leads spec says. I wonder about timing, but can find no info whatsoever on adjusting the slotted screw in the alternator cover - nor where timing marks can be found???
