Hey - doing a engine rebuild. Bike was eating oil on a 6 hour ride. Found this on one of the valves - what is it? Should i chip it off?

    Thanks.

It is just burnt oil. Use a wire brush in a drill if you are not going to take the valves out of the head.

Unburnt fuel can also help the carbon etc build up in the combustion chamber's and on top of the piston's
You could also use Threebond Super Engine Conditioner from Repco, spray it on, let it soak then scrub it off, it's also great for cleaning carbon and oil etc off piston's and between the piston's and ring's

    Hi,

I'm a poor 18yo. Don't have the money to spend 200 euros on OEM rings. Does anyone have any experience with Chinese engine parts? Have some in my GS500 project and has been fine for 5K, worried about this bike because of high RPM. Wondering if RPM matters though because piston speed is still normal.

    Thanks.

Not for the MC22 specifically but I have used the AHL brand pistons and rings on an FZR250 3LN in the past with no ill effects. Available on aliexpress

I have used the AHL piston and rings in my three CBR's and have not had any problems. The CBR drag bike sometimes goes past redline and has been going hard for three years of abuse.

Also - would an MC19 oil pump be interchangable with the MC22? Thanks.

What is wrong with your pump?
Aliexpress may have some. MC-19 should be the same as they are all MC-14 engines.

Bits of bearing material went through it... deep gauges in it.

    Hi -

Trying to reassemble the oiling system on my project MC22. Everything fits except ORIFICE 5.0x1.0 (JDM) as per this website. https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cbr250rr-mc22-1990-l-japan_model14665/partslist/E11.html
    It's part #16.

Have had a look on https://www.bike-parts-honda.com/ho.../OIL-PUMP-OIL-PAN-OIL-FILTER/81708/E_11/1/912 and the schematic shows the same location. Same with a service manual i found on here.

    Here is a YouTube video:
I made a mistake towards the end of the video - i meant the orifice is longer than the hole inside the crankcase.

    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kyle

Never taken one apart. Parts diagram shows the part fitting to the pump with an o-ring. Does yours? If not I would suggest it is the wrong part.

I've got the o-ring for it. Can't be any other part: there are only 2 orifices in the engines and i have both. One is in the correct spot, the other...

The Honda parts book for the MC19 shows part 16 & 17 swapped over. You best check that. The o-ring you have on the top one is the wrong o-ring. It is very hard to follow your video because you move the camera too fast. 3 or photos would be better than a video IMHO

I think you might have the restrictor that goes into the head oil feed pipe. Try swapping them around.

Hi. Thanks for the replies :)

You're right. I just checked. Thanks Murdo.

do you mean this o-ring? I had to buy one from the hardware store as i lost the old one. It's the fit i could find - it's the same thickness as the original.

    Thanks everyone.

Having trouble finding an oil pump in good condition. The wreckers near me have some but they're all super worn out with scratches. Honda doesn't stock anymore. Can't find any dealers with leftover stock. What to do?
