Ok fairly desperate for a new water pump shaft
    13107-1271

Im in Mackay QLD, happy to pay postage and for the shaft!

I got the new water pump and oil seals arriving this week but just realised the shaft is heavily pitted and not convinced an oil seal will last long...
(It was leaking coolant but not oil before though)

Have emailed local Kawasaki, none in stock here or Sydney so will be back order to Japan

I believe oil seal is 10mm ID, shaft i i wanna say 11mm, so might have a go with some grit paper...

    Cheers!

    Dan

Yep looks like the one to me!

Thanks for that, I'll have to message them, from what I've heard not much is coming into Aus from Japan at the moment :(

    Hi Dan
No problem , happy to help. The part is in Japan though , but if your in a hurry for it , it may be an option for you. At'least you'll have one. Keep looking via the web just in case one may be closer.

I thought that also about inquiring about getting one machined up , than i had a look over the one in the link.I'd imagine the shaft would be tempered anyway. I think i'd just buy a new O.E one. At'least it would be correct and bolt straight up to get you going.
No problem buddy , happy shopping.

Ah yeah i briefly entertained the idea of the speedy sleeves, i got a mate at a bearing joint I'll see what he reckons

Concern is whether i can get a sleeve that the pump housing can fit over also so i can still take it off

What about building the shaft up with weld and remachining to correct size.

Depending on how easy it is to get the shaft out I would take it to either a bearing store or find a metal sprayer in town.. It is Mackay after all..should be plenty of shops there that can do what you want.. but as you say it is the $$ that will make the difference.
Stellite sleeves are available as well.. It will never wear out then...lol
I have had pump shafts machined down and a stainless steel sleeve fitted before or you might even find that some speedy sleeve style items are out there for old holden / ford water pump seals that might be the right size.. my memory isnt that good going back that far.

True theres definitely plenty of places in Mackay that should be able to help, I'll speak to one of the engine reconditioning places and see who/what they reckon ;)

Can't seem to see shaft removal in the workshop manual

Do i just need to remove the clutch and then circlip and dowel pin?

Can you remove the complete Water pump housing from the transmission? If so the shaft should come out with it and you should then be able to remove the shaft.

Got the water pump and housing and oil pump off it

Looks like shaft held by circlip at the clutch end to me

One possibility to repair the pitting in the shaft you have is cold welding, also called electro deposition welding

I bumped across it last week

    This is one example

The handle/electrode he is holding is like a dremel of sorts, spinnng the metal to be deposited in the welds and it applies tiny amounts without much heating at all and is used specifically to address issues like you have with your water pump shaft

Lots of other examples on youtube

Interesting but not sure I'd be able to find anyone who could do that near me that i i would trust haha

    So far:
    - local engine reco place quoted $350 to repair/replace the shaft
    - Two other places have not provided quotes to machine a new one until they see the original
    - when i can get clutch out and shaft will take it to my bearing mate see about speedi sleeve options
    - my mate in UK reckons he can get a new one to him like next day so if UK-Aus delivery is still happening that might be an option
    - can't find definitive answers as to what if any air freight is coming from Japan still (tnt/fedex/ems?)

    - Broke the clutch plate holder/hub with my heavy handedness and the fact the clutch nut is tight as hell (still stuck on there)
