Oh, and I put new tyres on the 650 yesterday: Maxxis. Now I'll have regularly check tyre pressure and slow down on roundabouts. I am going to need them to last a lot of ks, too expensive to do often.
Painted tank, mudguard seat cowl in 2 pak 1972 Ducati green frame “Greek green”. Experimenting with adjustable “laverda “style clip on handle bars.
@Gizziracer I saw your build, thinking of repainting the frame, is it a big job to do? Is the wiring loom and cables through the frame? Basically, is it an hour's work or a whole weekend of work?
It’s a fairly big job totally stripping the bike to paint the frame.. I only did it as the original bike was a stat write off and I built the bike into a new., complianced frame.. you’d be doing well to do the job in a weekend.. maybe 2 12 hour days but maybe not even then.
I attended my first vjmc meeting tonight , was nice to get out on the t500, I really need to make more time to ride
thurs nite for me and had national committee phone hook up last nite.just renewed ad in old bike australia for 12 months.
Bought myself another bike... a runner this time. Needs to be registered, rego ran out in May so it will need a Blue Slip but should be an easy pass. Aussie delivered 1991 VT250 Spada that looks to be in pretty good unmolested condition. It needs a little cosmetic work and it does have very high KM but the price was right. Pick it up on Sunday so next week will be time to book in for my Stay Upright course... god only knows what the lead time on that will be lol.
I did do some bike work on Saturday. I have a ttr250 that had been neglected and someone tried doing something with it at one stage. So I thought I'd try to get it to start. Step 1 was making sure the cam timing was right (did that a week ago), then step 2 was check for spark. Last week I had no spark. So I started on kill switches, but when I went to disconnect plugs, there were some dirty connectors - there's a fair amount of corrosion about the bike, been sitting a while and near the sea. A bit of WD on connectors, a bypass here or there, google wiring diagrams and finally I realise it needs a battery. Borrow a battery from the VTR, connect things back up, and we have spark! Now to get the carby out to take to work for an ultrasonic cleaning. It isn't going to be a pretty site...
Been helping a friend with his 1981 BMW R100s. The head stem bearings were loose and he tightened them up (over tightened them) causing them to 'groove' the bearings and making it horrible to ride. He gave up and put into back of shed in 1998 where it has sat since. With retirement he has decided to get the 'old girl' out and put back on road. I've cleaned and resealed the carbs, new plugs and leads, repaired the battery carrier and fitted new battery but the master cylinder and calipers will have to be renewed. Took a while to get the old races out as they have no cut outs to be able to get a drift in. Had to make this 'pronged' punch to get them moving, then with long drift punch behind.
Beemers are interesting beasts , I bought one to wreck but a mate fell in love with it , now it his his , this was a 1000cc injected model rode really well
