Searching for a friend. He is looking for a 1986 - 1988 Honda VT 250 F He is very particular about that style of vt, not wanting the earlier ones. Doesn't matter the condition, he is interested in any for the price suited accordingly. Here is a pic of what the style is he is after.
My fiend had one many years ago, was a 87-88 model, same colour as above. Main difference was the outboard discs fitted. Was an Australian built bike. not a grey import, plus his not interested in paying an importer top dollar for one.
1 NO Japanese bikes were/are built in Australia. 2 Australian delivered bike would have differences to above to comply with the ADR (Australia's Dumb Rules). One here. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/moss-vale/motorcycles/don-t-miss-out/1206779604
well it was an ADR bike not a grey import. seen that one on gumtree. not going to comment about the seller. enough said.
I have one of these sitting in the shed, lonely, slightly leaky but in good nic (pic for model example only)
ahh yeah, he really wants the model in the pic i posted. his not interested in the other models unless they dirt cheap
the other one he said he didnt mind, but was 2nd preference to the black one i posted was one of these.
Welcome to the forum @Jethalter An interesting request and facts about your mate's old bike. To my knowledge, the VT250F that you have said he had was never available in Australia with normal front disc brake(s). There was a MC25 model (1st image) that was a JDM model only (to my knowledge). There was also a model sold/called the VTZ250 and a VT Supersport (2nd image) that looked a bit like his 1st choice with twin front disks. There was a model sold in America called the 'VTR Interceptor' (3rd image), but it only had a single front disk like the MC25. Can you ask your mate if his had 1 or 2 front disks? All of these models have a cable clutch and not the hydraulic unit that the original VT250F came with. Ask him if it was a cable clutch bike?
also did a bit more research on it, you might be right about it being a grey import. i dont remember anything on that listed it as such, was pretty sure it was an adr bike however it was a good 10+ years ago(more like 15 years), so its quite possible. also in relation to your question, i think the 2nd pic you posted is what closest resembles the bike, just a different color scheme. judging by the wheel design and fairings.
Yes, I think it was VT Supersport/Integra. Not a common bike, so won't be any on the Australian market.
will do, was that one from moss vale, needs a bit of work tho. no where near the condition he said it was in. but at least my mate has a vt250f now and his happy.
Didn't quite realize just how rare those bikes are, especially when you search for parts and try to find anything that suits MC15. They are quite a few and far between now, With X amount being written off, X being scrapped, and all those X ones hidden in garages, not many about. Anyway here is a pic of the one he got. Looks alright from afar, but Left & Right Upper cowl needs alignment to follow the fit of the tank (requires headlight frame to be straightened/mod), indicators on rear held on with tape, seat has terrible home trim job, rear cylinder oil leak, carbs need a good clean, visor is distorted(dont know if a polish will get it out), Brakes are on the limits of needing replacing, and the best for last, the tires are so old they are cracked in every groove, no idea how they hold air. But for the price and considering how rare, not too bad overall.
I dont know if he'll ever sell it, very nostalgic thing for him since that was the model of his first ever road bike 20 years ago or thereabouts. Also thought whilst i was up that way in NSW (1700km's round trip drive), there was a suzuki across literally just up the road (15 mins away) that i got for $100 for parts, complete bike with the worst paint on it, but good LH fork, caliper and disc so was worth it.
