I don't even a lathe. Actually, even our drill press is very ordinary. However I do have a giant gear shaper from 1950's but I never got around to using it and it has sat out in the weather for a decade... Oops.

Not as much as I should. Been smoking, playing with 2-strokes a bit lately, but also smashed at work and that left me crook. So, tomorrow I'm going to drive 8hours north to pick up 2 project KDXs, turn around and drive 8 hours home. I should be prepping for my first real track day that is coming up.. originally planned the 19th at Morgan Park (Warwick), but might change to Feb 2. TBC

We are home , bit long winded as we had an 8 hour stop over in Singapore , I have had a glorious time in Thailand , it is one of my favourite places to visit.

Few more bike / scooter pics . In my
11 days that I was there , I saw/heard only one 2 banger . Not through lack of trying , but I only came home with 1 bike shirt, there were just none around.

It has been too damned hot since we came back from our little holiday to Albury / Wodonga (not quite as nice Phuket but it was still a break) for me to get anything done out in the garage. It was over 45 C at midday in the garage with no fan etc so I decided to spend the afternoon searching for anything I still need for the SRX, which isnt a lot now.
The one item that has been bugging me and has been hard to find is the SRX600 clip-ons.
I managed to find a set on Zenmarket which look to be reasonable. maybe a slight bend but nothing my press cant handle.
The only issue I may have is there are 2 different sizes of front forks for the SRX600. The early ones have 36mm and later ones are 38mm. I need the latter. It isnt a big deal if they are 36mm as I can have them bored to suit the 38mm forks.
So a sniper bid has been placed and I will be online Sunday night to make sure I get them.

On my bikes, not a damned thing.
Worked on bits for the Wasp, helped friend Peter sort the wiring and get his MC-19 running and helped Sean put a BMW 1150GS jigsaw puzzle back together and get it running. Beer o'clock now. :p

I enjoyed a nice day today.. max of 27 so plenty of time spent in the garage.. did a bid tidy up and then got into the gauge cluster.. more info in my Project thread..
I also started cleaning up a few really dirty items.. the worst is the chain guard.. the grunge underneath was at least 1/4" thick and sticky as hell. I left it sitting in a really strong mix of CT18 for most of the day and then donned some gloves and gave it a good scrub. Still needs some more but it is better.
I also started to look at the engine cases with a view to rebuilding the bottom end this week. The only big issue I have is blocking off the internal oil feed to the head that the 250 engine uses. There is a tube that runs in the cam chain tunnel that feeds an internal port which would normally go up the 250 barrel. The 350 barrel doesnt have it but doesnt fully cover the port so I need to plug that tube.
I am wondering if my propane torch will put out enough heat braze (or silver solder) the steel tube. I was going to tap into the back of the case and put a plug into it but it is too hard to get too.. (maybe).
I could always put Braze (silver solder) a grub screw into the tube and then fill the internal port with JB Weld..
Any other ideas from the experts????
I will put up pics tomorrow.. I didnt get a chance to take any today.

I've been getting myself into trouble. I've been buying north and south, and now I'm broke and have bikes that I don't know what do with - the pair of KDX200D bikes, mainly. Also, my 650 decided to stop sending a speed signal. I was still riding because I know my speed by gear and revs, but forgot that the odometer isn't working either, so I was nearly caught out of fuel because that's my fuel gauge, too. So many electrical problems... Oh, and carby/flooding issues with another KDX and zxr (Buzz). I really have to start selling some stuff...

Just sitting down tonight to order a list of little bits I need for the SRX... mostly special grommets and sleeves etc and I decided to check Megazip against IMPEX exactly item for item.. IMPEX ended up being 25% cheaper than Megazip.. and that was after I was given a 10% discount at Megazip.. freight seemed to be a more realistic price as well so over it was considerably cheaper.. and past experience tells me they are both Original Yamaha items in original packaging.

As well as starting on the engine assembly I had my plastic chain guard soaking in a very strong CT18 mix to try and get all the chain lube and accumulated crud from underneath.. It cleaned up quite well with a bit of scraping on the softened crud.
This is what was left after draining off the used CT18...

Not much. Got the (late model) kdx running again - bit of bad fuel and flooding. The ninja 650 got a little attention, the speedo wasn't working, but when I started tracing the wire I found that someone extended the stator wiring with some nasty, old and split wires. Sure, they did a tidy job with heatshrink on joins, but the insulation is no good - I've seen bare wire on at least 2 out of 3 of the wires. However, my (cheap) multimeter has died, so I can't test the speedo sensor. I might have to see if Vinnie's still have that paddock stand. Got a few bikes needing work, just have prioritise.

With all these bikes to fix, I got thinking "what if I sold off a heap of these bikes and bought one BRAND NEW bike?" But I ran into a problem: I couldn't find a bike I want to buy....

Then again you could sell of a heap of those bikes and buy a newer, running, registered and reliable bike that you DO like.. and have more spare time to actually ride and enjoy it... Just another point of view :)

Just started my silver zxr250, last ride was almost a year ago when we did the
Forum ride , it has probably been 4 months since she last ran

Might be time for a ride to clear the cobwebs out

Well that's what I bought the ninja 650 for. And yet, I've had a couple of issues, the latest being the speedo and charge wiring, but most importantly, I don't really like it. It's growing on me, but the wind in the face is a bit much after a while and I'm not convinced on the stance/handlebars - I like the zxr ergonomics, but the carbies..

The solution is simple. Sell everything but the ZXR and use the funds to buy these

Or EFI with ignitech or whoever it is. But the first step is prepping for sale, and that's a lot of work. And money, so it probably doesn't gain me much. Step 1: fix the 650 so you can use it!

Efi might be cheaper, but more trouble to fit.
