This headlight upgrade is pretty common on an 80 series Land Cruiser as the factory lights are like candles. Ive only had guesses and wankers answering my query on the LC groups LCs are negatively switched so theres 'fixes' on the sites that sell these LED replacements Ive tried all the connection alternatives but I still get the LEDs on high beam when the vehicle lights are on low and vice versa I know LEDs are polarity sensitive but they are working fine , but are getting the wrong signal .. ? Would the inner hi beam lights that still have standard globes in them be affecting this? Would having the plugs/connectors not connected the same (while experimenting) on both sides be a problem? ... but then I think I tried it with 1 side unplugged and it still wasnt right. I did install LED globes previously and it worked just fine .... but the rubber cover couldnt be used so they filled with water
I thought you had this all sorted out ages ago.. or was that for the work / driving light in the middle? Is there a balance resistor with the LED light... It is possible the standard high beams are affecting them.. I assume you have tried them with the high beams disconnected! Problem is that it really is a 2 person job to troubleshoot electrics like this as you need someone switching stuff on and off while you are watching the multi-meter / test lamp etc.. The water cooled LED globe is a neat innovation though
Hmm I did find something that was based around rectangular light like yours and in the specs they say they come as a Hi / Lo connector for use either as 2 light or 4 light setup.. Have you checked to see if there is any feedback from the High Beam connection? Dont think it will catch on though The previous hassle was the driving lights and neg switching .... but I sorted that out .... that LED light bar isnt connected yet but I just will follow the same wiring variation as the HIDs and see what happens So yes I disconnected the inner high beams and after a bit of connector shuffling the outers come on their low setup when vehicle is on low beam ... albeit a 'different configuration' .... and just go dimmer when u flick on high beam .... but of course it reverts back to the wrong order again when the inners are reconnected Maybe the inner high beams have to be LEDs also Mine are only cheap ebay specials .... as u can see by your link , the u beaut sets of 4 can be stupidly expensive .... and probably ADR approved also
Sounds like you are getting feedback from the inners. I wonder what would happen if you had a diode on the high beam wire to the outer so you can’t get any feedback from the inner. yea must be something that will sort it ... plenty of 80s owners use them ... but theres 1 place theres more of the Dodgy family than bike owners and thats the 4WD groovers The biggest hurdle is the magic Toyo negative switching Ill have to read up a little more ... Im going away on Monday though but I wont be driving at night thankfully From the ebay pictures
This probably repetitious of what you already know - you have two ground wires in your system with one common power wire which works fine as normal headlights don't give a hoot about the direction of current flow. The first post here illustrates the plug differences https://www.hidplanet.com/forums/fo...stions/39604-negatively-switched-h4-confusion If you take your single positive wire and feed both the normal H4 positive inputs on your LED's then you'll the whole thing to illuminate One option is if there is the possibility of opening the LED's and seeing if there are either two separate ground planes inside, then you could run two negatives and combine the positives from the LED globe to the single positive that your wiring harness provides - this is doubtful though One way I can see this working is by wiring in two relays which use the negative switching of the harness to switch the relays on & off and the relays switch the positive lines to the LED's - but and this is a big but, you seem to have some weird interplay with other lights in the system Quick google and sure enough, there's a thread This thread details the idiosyncrasies but comes complete with a schematic, it does explain the weirdness you see with the internal high beam lights installed https://www.landcruiserclub.net/com...led-headlight-upgrade-60-or-80-series.145711/ This post in particular explains the weird interplay with the other lights https://www.landcruiserclub.net/com...-upgrade-60-or-80-series.145711/#post-1440512 hope this helps
Yea I was expecting some stupid situation causing it like the post below ... more hassle than its worth These might be destined for the bin ... plug and play is music to my ears
It should be simple enough with a multimeter and someone to switch the lights for you whilst you watch the polarity to see if it reverses Such an odd design if it's the case
I've recently had a similar problem fitting led front parker/indicator 1157 globe's, the indicator's worked ok, but when you used the parker's they wouldn't work. It ended up being the circuit inside the led switches the earth to positive to turn it off, add in a diode to the wiring each side and it's all fixed. Do you know how many amp's the low beam's draw, i reckon if you do as @Andych suggested above Get a 1N5402 or 1N5404 diode (these are rated at 3A so should be fine ) and they only cost about .35c each at Jaycar, Wire it between the low beam wire and the female terminal where it connect's to the back of the headlight. Just cut the low beam wire and when you solder the diode in make sure the silver end is on the headlight side eg

The Led light's will only draw 1/4 to 1/3 of the power compared to the original sealed beam's or halogens
