Finished of cleaning both rims. Then had a tidy up and clean out all the crap that was blown into the garage over the last couple of weeks.
I really hate garages that are not well sealed. There are too many places I can see daylight in this one. If it were mine I would fix it.

Next weekend will be polishing and maybe masking up for paint.
Depends on how the knee pulls up after a big week with work.

Big ride today (on the ZXR :fuckyou: )

Down the Nasho, up Jamberoo mountain, down Kangaroo valley. Lunch, then back up Kangaroo valley, down Macquarie pass and back up the Nasho.

Had a Kawasaki H2, BMW 800 and 1200 GSes, street triple, S1000RR, CB400 and a WR250 for company, so the ZXR was certainly 'on song' - with the added bonus of tight twisty roads where the bigger bikes fall down in the maneuverability aspect. Oh and roundabouts, so much fun.

Too many lycra wearers in the nasho in the morning though... mental images of lycra suits with gel pads on the buttcheeks are something I'd like to forget

About 3 weeks ago, my yellow CBR250 did a head gasket and received an engine swap from my trackbike as I had a buyer lined up for the following day, alas he didnt show up so that all for nothing. At the same time I message Omar from xcitebikes chasing an OEM head gasket so this engine could be repaired, it never showed up so I figured Omar hadn't seen my message. On the weekend I was cleaning up my sons room and low and behold I find a package from Omar, I quickly messaged Omar apologizing profusely then made payment.

Today, we took the old engine apart and the head gasket was definitely toast, after some cleaning up of the surfaces, the head gasket was fitted, the engine is now back into the bike and is a runner. Im really stoked as I want to get this old girl on the track. Thanks to @Phil for all his help. Tomorrow I will finish assembling it, but just hearing run was good enough for me.

So it's been an exciting week here at Garage Laverty- I have a project Dodge Neon (I know I know) with the wrong motor, wrong trans and a turbo that has no place in that car that fired up for the first time in THIRTEEN years this weekend. So I got it out of the garage, cleaned the garage and when I got blocked on more stuff the car needs, I went back to the ZXR- doing the stuff I should have done when I bought the bike. I have questions elsewhere about the valve adjustment I'm about to undertake but for tonight I figured I'd share what's left of one of my plug wires... Two looked like this. One didn't have corrosion, but had like 6 frayed strands everywhere. The last had about 1 strand showing. What's the hot ticket here? OEM wires? Build my own with parts store wire and reuse the OEM ends? The wires I have now are not really flexible- should they be soft like car wires or are these intentionally formed? These hold the shape of where they've been since presumably 1991. Eeeeeek. Corrosion is bad, as is erosion. I've never seen wires just disappear up the sheathing like this.

Car spark plug lead's are normally wire wound silicon so are flexible and usually have a bit of resistance, motorcycle lead's are normally copper core with very little resistance.

You can use some Dielectric grease in your spark plug cap's to lessen the chance of corrosion, on the thread for the lead, the resistor and the clip for the top of the spark plug.
I also smear a little grease inside the boot's to help waterproof them and they come off easy next time too

Try chopping .05mm off the lead then reattach your plug cap, I think it’s 0.2 of an inch in your neck of the woods. Hopefully snipping that much off will expose wire that is not corroded. Or if you wanna get get funky, finds some ninja 300stick coils and go coil on plug.

What’s up with the dodge neon, you talk about it as if it was part of your mis spent youth, or you streamed the fast and the furious and have now bought a tuner car.

I used to have a 5 cylinder turbo Ford Focus with a quaif limited slip diff, flash tune and a big fmic. Not as much fun as bikes, but still fun.

Bought something a little special today ,
A 1974 Suzuki T500 , it has been sitting for 12 years after undergoing a resto, the engine is locked up , but I am pretty wrapt with it

Oh it was the entirety of my misspent youth. :lolsign: it started as a Competition model (gave me a more aggressive final drive and adjustable struts from the factory), and then became a project through multiple engine swaps. It then sat for about a decade, with people telling me to throw it away, take it to the recycler, get a dime for my soda can, it was never gonna run again, etc etc etc.

It's a car here in the states that not a lot of people remember fondly, but I had great times with mine- and as I told all my friends, I brought it into this world, I'll take it out of it.

I've owned it for 18 years, and for 13 of them it's been parked as I worked to make an engine swap happen, and then life got in the way, and whatnot. It currently sits with a Mexican police market 2.4l turbo block, a MegaSquirt I built a few years back, Crane cams, a T3/4 turbo and a transmission I jokingly say is from a Sprinter van (the trans got used in the SRT4 and the Sprinter manual diesels). 2/3rds of my friends think I'm an idiot for owning it still. 1/3 of my friends get it. Another 1/3rd of them think I'm a ******* dumbass for investing in the platform, but get why I do. (wait, that's 4/3rds. Ah well- I'll stand on it. lol)

So yeah, misspent youth into adulthood sums it up pretty well, but 2500lbs, an LSD and about 400HP is kind of a good recipe no matter what it looks like.

Love the vids @Murdo , @Phil and I did some work on it today , we have one barrel off , the other is being somewhat difficult.

I am thinking that a full crank rebuild is in order while it is apart, that way I know it will be right. Good news is that SuZuki still have loads of NOS parts available and they are quite reasonably priced

Heat up the barrel with a hot air gun from the outside (keep a wet rag on the piston) and it should come free. With it sitting for so long I would be having a look at the crank seals and replace if in any doubt.

Penetrine. Heat, of course. If the piston is low, you might be able to lift and twist the cylinder, separating the piston from the cylinder first, tap the piston down to free the rings. Just some suggestions
