I got the info from the resistor's inside the spark plug cap's,
it was also listed somewhere in either the 2KR or 3LN Service Manual too iirc

A couple of my 3ln3 spark plug cap's were reading in the 8K Ohm range instead of 10K,
so i took the cap's apart and cleaned up the end's of the spring's and the end's of the resistor's, then used some Dielectric grease on them to prevent future corrosion and put them back together.

Not many company's use 10K Ohm cap's any more, most have gone to 5K cap's.
Pretty sure there are still some 10K cap's available though

Running 5K Ohm spark plug cap's draw's extra current through the ignition coil and through the TCI so will run hotter, shortening the life of both
It can also cause RFI interferance to guage's/sender unit's and the TCI

Might be the cause of my acceleration problems ..... might have to do some swapping out after I rule out the carbs

Inside you spark plug cap it look's like this

    ngk-epdm-rubber-spark-plug-cap.jpg

You could use NGK SD10F spark plug cap's on the FZR's.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NGK-SD10F-SPARK-PLUG-RESISTOR-COVER-CAP-BOOT-RUBBER-SCOOTER-MOTORCYCLE-2-STROKE/122276108947?hash=item1c78395a93:g:EQoAAOSw44BYWBlq&_sacat=0&_nkw=sd10f+spark+plug+cap&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0
And possibly XD10F spark plug cap's

Otherwise you might be able to source some new 10K Ohm resistor's and swap them into you spark plug cap's,
could even salvage some out of your old spark plug cap's ?

    @my67xr
So the old caps are easy enough but the new ones dont have a screwdriver slot to unscrew the connector :commando:

Ok, that's no good then, they're moulded in when they get made.
Must be cheaper/quicker doing it that way, and i guess they'll sell more spark plug cap's later on when this type fail's..

    Coils were ok

Ill just reno some old caps

1 lead was a little junky but there was a coolant leak from the thermostat right above it awhile back so would explain that

Not sure if there is a contact stuck to a spring in your picture above ?
But when you reassemble them make sure this brass contact goes between the top spring and the resistor on the top spark plug cap

Thought of another thing with you running the 5K Ohm cap's, they would have let the spark out the coil quicker, fitting the 10K Ohm cap's will extend the duration of the spark a bit more and help burn more of the fuel/air in the cylinder

Yea one of those little contacts was missing ... someone had played with it before

that white stuff on the springs is from moisture or wateva ... I have yet to clean everything up

Hopefully between proper resistance at the spark and a revamped pilot merge chamber and a few 3LN1 specific carb setups and settings we will have a winner .... but I wont hold my breath

The 10k caps are not common in the UK I have had to order mine from France.

They arnt common anywhere .... even the green sparkplug company doesnt list them , and they have tons of gear

Good luck if your buying off that French ebay guy ... I tried twice today and for wateva reason the payment failed ... never had that happen before

I had a look for some today, the Yamaha XJ's use a 10K Ohm cap and so does the FZ6R's but Yamaha US has them around $50-$60US ea !
Also noticed the NGK replacement spark plug cap's for them are 5k Ohm's, i wonder if NGK know what it does to the spark and TCI's

Cancel that idea ... the clips are very brittle and just break when removing :commando:
