New grips vs old... the old ones were great but they didn't last, hopefully these dominos last a bit longer. They are awesome so far.

Wow, everything except the clutch basket has already turned up. Including the rings from China, which look alright and are the right size. Basket should be here on Thursday.

Gotta love megazip, each tiny dash bulb the size of your pinky end came in individual boxes the size of a small oil filter... lol.

Dash globes... done. One more job ticked off.

Before. Hard to tell, but the lower half of the speedo was not well lit, and I had no backlight at all on the temp gauge.

    Gy0dE9q.jpg

Removing the front fairing was fairly easy. Mirrors off, two bolts underneath and the 3 on each side for the side fairings and it pops right out with the headlight secured.

    V3gnUFn.jpg

Old globes... most likely cooked when the reg/rec went an eon ago

    fdHdONL.jpg

After - speedo is much brighter and I can see the temp gauge at night. Kind of important.

Didn't know what size bulbs and how many would be needed. Now I do, so I can go LED in the future if I want to

The T6.5 and T7 bulb's are harder to find in LED,
but i'm pretty sure you could use T5 LED and possibly modify a T10 LED's to work?

I'm pretty sure the T6.5 and T7 bulb's have the same size base as a T5, but the T6.5 just has a slightly wider head (6.5mm), and same thing with the T7 (7mm wide head)

You would need to find some bright led's with a design so it throw's the light in all direction's too, most led's have a narrow beam.
I've just found and bought some of the new style COB LED'S and am waiting for them to arrive
I have some older style BA9's COB led's for my 1967 XR Fairmont and they're really bright and throw light in all direction's
    s-l1600.jpg

These are the T5 COB LED's, but the newer style has longer / brighter head's, but i don't recommend buying them, the one's i got didn't have resistor's fitted and blow within second's of fitting them
I will play around with different resistor's and see what i can do to make them reliable

    s-l1600.jpg

I have some other T5's which are ok, but aren't the brightest, but as you can see they have the resistor's fitted so don't blow quickly.

I've been thinking about doing something to raise the handlebars for a while, mostly from the complaints my spine is making. Rear seat still on the list, too.

Finally pulled the vernier calipers out and measured the diameter of the fork upper, which is 50mm. Which gives plenty of options.

I'm thinking about grabbing these bars - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/112335388633

They're cheap and have a 1" rise in them. Thinking about running them reversed to bring the bars back closer to the seat, if that makes sense. Also have to think about clearance of the front fairing and the tank tubes as well, as I'd like to keep them.

Just hoping that all the wiring and cables have enough length in them.

Running them reversed will make a big difference, the bar's would sit around 100mm closer to you, guess you'd need to angle then out a bit more than normal for grip to tank clearance though

And here I was thinking that I might like to move my seat back. I kind of lay on the tank and put elbows on my knees. I usually have a lot of issue with my back, but usually it's other things that aggregate it, like working on motorbikes (mostly bikes not raised to standing height) and the waist bands on my pants (sciatic).

For me, the seat slants forward to the tank too much. Reach to the bars is a bit too much for me. I'd like to raise the pegs as well, to grab the tank with my knees and stop scraping my toes.

Maybe you're turning too hard? I put my toes on the pegs so dragging toes isn't an issue for me. I did get my seat recovered and he added some foam, especially at the front, so I wouldn't suffer the dreaded sliding down the seat and into tank - works fairly well. Grippier seat cover helps, too.

No I'm just lazy and don't put my toes on the pegs (long legs etc) and my work boots are quite large being steelcaps.
