Have all the parts for Keihin throttle shafts now. You can see them on the MC22 page. http://litetek.co/Carb_Kit_Honda_CBR250RR_MC22.html I am making the Tech Guide as I assemble my own carbs. Will post some more soon. Cheers Blair
There is a problem with working with the OEM style throttle shaft seals. The housing has been staked by the nice people at the Keihin factory. Not because they are stupid, oh no, this is deliberate. They just don't want you reconditioning their 30 year old carburettors. If they did then they would sell the parts (never going to happen). You have to restore this to a round hole before fitting an OEM type seal or you will never get it in without butchering it. So we need a solution and here it is. I have designed a full rubber seal, made from FKM which is commonly known by the trade name of Viton. This makes it very easy to fit new seals and they could even be installed without removing the shaft. These seals are modelled on the Mikuni versions of the same part. You can simply apply some silicone to the back and sides to bond the seal into position. and here showing the fitment of the shaft. Now I will be able to finish my carb rebuild, complete the guide, and offer comprehensive kits for Keihins. Cheers Blair
Haha, buy a dodgy set of carbs first. Turn them into something beautiful, then find an MC22 to put them on. Preferably one of the "I just paid $986 at the Honda dealer to have my bike tuned and even with the bigger jets it runs like crap. I've had it with this piece of ****. I'm gonna sell it".
I can't tell you for sure. On the Honda MC22 these seals are used on the outside of carb 1 & 4 (only 2 of them) so they are clearly visible. If the Kawasaki has the same setup then you should be able to see that. All of the other seals are felt.
ahh righto . Yeah I've noticed the idle changes when spraying the middle of cylinder 2 and 3 on the throttle shaft and i've already verified the boots are good . So that would mean its the felt seals ?
Yes, they will mess up your idle and low speed more than anything else. Having said that, if you sprayed a volatile substance like ether directly into the felt seal then you would expect some to make its way into the intake. On the Keihins, the felt seal behind the ends of the throttle shafts that have nuts on them are the most exposed.
Price for finished kit is 685 Thai Baht including shipping. The guide for the throttle shafts is about half way there and will be finished soon. https://litetek.co/Guide_Keihin_Rebuild.html
Hi All, I finished the throttle shaft seal fitting guide. I ended up using stainless Torx screws and also drilled the ends of same for the purposes of staking, see Staking Method 2 https://litetek.co/Guide_Keihin_Rebuild.html I have to deal with a broken piece of carb body 3 that the previous owners left me with before I can finish the assembly and wrap up the guide but those are trivial issues compared to doing the seal replacement. @TonyZXR and @Frankster have been helping me to sort out something for the Kawasaki's as their setup is not the same as the Honda equivalent.
