Hi, I've just finished putting all the major parts back on my '08 gt250r just have the side fairings to put back on. The issue I'm having is the bike won't start. I have good compression and spark but I'm thinking it's the carby's needing bleeding. Any ideas on how to do this?
If the carbies are full of old fuel and it won't start, the best course of action is to clean out the bowls, jets, and and other small orifices (air jets etc).
Its only been a month since it was last started and it ran fine then. Would everything be gummed up after a month?
It depends on the fuel type and the conditions, eg E10 rubbish fuel and bike left outside... hot sun during the day, cold at night, will create condensation in the carbs. Ethanol is hygroscopic, like brake fluid, so it will take on the water and absorb it. This contaminates the fuel.
Whats the story with the your bike? ... did it run before? Could be many reasons it wont start ... but Ive started my FZR nearly always first attempt after its sat for months If its turning over but just wont fire then try all combinations ... choke , no choke , half choke , bit of throttle , no throttle , full throttle while u turn it over
Yeah i bought the bike as a runner and being an idiot i took it for a bit of a run on old tyres and dropped the bike. Not much damage, just scratches and decided to remove the fairings and repaint the bike. While i was at it i replaced the inlet manifolds as they were looking perrished. Tonight i put the freshly painted tank back on and fueld the bike up but it wouldnt fire up. It just turned over. I tried the choke options and throttle to no avail.
As Murdo suggested , did u confirm theres fuel running into the bowls? Is there an inline filter? ... is it on the correct way with the flow direction?
I had this problem the other day, might not be the best idea but I just put a few ml's of gas down each carb and turned it over
Thats a yes to both. No, there not that easy to get to. Means removing the tank to get access to the air box.
Sometimes a 'sniff' of starter spray into the air intake while cranking is enough to 'light the fires' in the cylinders. Have you checked that the plugs are firing?
