Absolute typical that these would show up a few weeks after I shell out a fortune for genuine Yamaha :mad::mad:

I picked up the new aftermarket boots from the post office this morning. They appear to be of decent quality, and are numbered for cylinders 1 through 4. They are not perfect however, and may require cleanup and de-burring before being put into service.

One set will go to the fizzer factory in the post, anyone else need a set?

I match ported mine to the head, didn't need to take much off.
One mounting hole needed to be drilled out too, it was filled with rubber

Ok, managed to get a set of these (one hole filled in) has anyone had any luck with them and do you need a sealant between these and the engine?

Nah mine have been all good since i fitted them, i just drilled out that rubber in the 1 hole.
I did match port mine to the head port's though, i used a Dremel with a 80grit 13mm sanding drum and took about 1mm to 3mm out of the inside to straighten up the flow.
I didn't use anything to seal them to the head, the moulded in rubber seal work's fine underneath.
I also coated the inside's and outside's of the rubber/nbr/pvc with some silicon grease to make removing the carby's easier in the future if i need to 10Pcs-Dremel-Accessories-12-5mm-Grit-80-Sanding-Bands-3-17mm-Sander-Drum-Mandrel-Rotary-Tool.jpg

Yea definately put rubber grease on the inside where the carby sits .... cuz if you dont have to remove/refit the carbys 5000 times being an FZR , then u arnt trying :D

You say that, however at the moment except some bogging on take off now and again (which I think is either the fuel filter being clogged or the fuel pump being dead ) I'd rather not touch the carbs when they look like this:

So how will you swap the manifold's if you aren't touching the carb's ?
Look's like you need to order the 2x full seal kit's from @maelstrom, and get rid of that epoxy/silicon asap ?

Just an update on my replacement china intake manifold's
I was doing some work on my bike today and noticed the new intake's have hairline cracking just like the original's,
not sure if it affect's the idle etc yet but i'll check when i get the fuel tank back on by spraying them with some wd40 etc
They are now 18 month's old and i coated them in silicon grease before fitting them
I guess spending $25 every 18 month's to replace them isn't too bad

How are your genuine boot's holding out @beano ?

They will certainly be NBR. The OEM will most likely be NBR-PVC blend which has better weathering capability but we all know they go hard and crack too. Like you said it will come down to cost over time and whether you plan on keeping the bike.

@my67xr i actually have no idea, the bike is currently at my folks house about 120kms away while i finish my final year at uni.

my exams finish in a few weeks so will be moving back home after that and hopefully will get some serious bike time in this summer.

i will check the boots and post back up when i get home :thumb_ups:

I'm trying out something different with my second set of new intake manifolds, the ones i bought back in 2017 that were left sealed in the packet.
They were stored as arrived in a plastic page inside a brown paper envelope and were kept in an old wardrobe, there's no visible damage to them, and they are still soft.

This time i am giving them 3 coats of plastic adhesion primer before fitting them to try and seal the rubber from the air, hopefully they wont develop the fine cracks this time and will extend their service life.
The photo's make them look pretty bad.
I have seen the plastic adhesion primer used on car tyre's before when a mate had his tyre's whitewalled and they still look new 8 year's later.
I have also used plastic adhesion primer on rubber before on an EB Falcon rubber rear boot lip spoiler before painting it and 10 year's later that is still good too.

Here the middle manifold hasn't been plastic primed yet.

They are a shocker ..... I wonder if all these aftermarket ones are manufactured in the same place (same materials , same quality control)
.... being very model specific , you would have to think so ... and I guess theres no way of knowing

I am pretty sure they're still made by the same company that made the original's, ACS / ARS / AYS ? Japan
Whether or not the original maker's have sold the original mould's for them and someone else has taken over production i guess we'll never know.
And beside's the casting batch number's on them there is no visible difference between the oem and aftermarket inatke manifold's
