Hey boys I have a suzuki across and stupid me I haven't started it for a fair while as it was out of rego. My problem is that it will wind over but and go to start but won't run. Now I'm guessing that the fuel in the carby has gone bad what's the best way to clean It out and try fresh fuel Thanks Phil
Open the drain screws in the bottom of the fuel bowls and let them run until fresh fuel comes through and retighten them. May need a sniff of a starting fluid to help the first fire.
if that doesn't work, whip the carbs off and turn them over and remove the 4 screws holding the float bowls on. The slow jets are in the 2 smaller tubes, pull them out using a flat blade screw driver and make sure they are clean, ( you should be able to see a pin ***** of light through them) , also pull the main jet and make sure they are clean.
Awesome thanks mate I will try that over the next few days. Draining the fuel didn't change anything other then to find out that the last mechanic that worked on it stripped the drain hole on the kick stand side so I'm either up for a new carbie or just try and find a new fuel bowl for it grrrrrr
Try drilling it and using an easy-out to get the stripped drain bolt out. Should be easy enough. Give it a squirt of WD40 before trying to un-bolt any bolts on these old girls.
Push start it mate. Put fresh fuel in the tank, get the motor spinning real fast and (assuming there are no introduced issues since it was last started) I'd expect it will kick over. Open it right up to clean out the guts and she'll probably be OK. I've run bikes with fuel in them over a year old... takes 'em a while to start but some fresh fuel on top and off they go... not ideal but not a show stopper.
My across wouldn't start after a carby rebuild (my fault for not taking notice of where the pilot jets were located). It would try to start, but wouldn't kick over. I just cleaned off the spark plugs, put the bike in the sun, and tried starting again when the carbys and engine block were warm to the touch. She started first try after that.
