So i traded my ninja 300 for a MC22 and a week later it broke down and all the electrics shut off. I managed to clutch start it and ride it home. The previous owner said that he had just replaced the battery because the same thing had happened to him so i replaced the stator and reg/rec with brand new ones. However, a few days ago i was riding and the revs went down to 0, there was no throttle response and the bike cut off again. I was going down a steep hill at the time however still couldn't clutch start it. I had to take it on a trailer home and attempted to jump start it with a mates bike but that didnt work. If you have any ideas what it could be please help. At the moment it is just sitting in the garage and not starting.
First up do a check of your electrical system. Check battery voltage when starting, and raise the revs to make sure the reg/reg is charging the battery. Clean and sand your battery terminals, fuse connectors and connectors for the reg/rec, stator and lights.
And check all the earths are good too. Bare metal the frame where the earth lead bolts go and smear some dielectic grease on it and any wiring connections to stop corrosion.
Will do but there's absolutely nothing when i turn the key, generally the oil light etc comes on but yeah its just dead atm
Thats why u start at the battery terminals/connections Does it have a 'main' fuse near the battery somewhere ? ... usually 20 or 30 amp
I'm wondering if its your ignition, if you have done the battery , stator and reg then that is where I would be heading.
Hey Mozz, The issue is corrosion in the starter solenoid plug. It's a red plug to the right of your battery. You need to squeeze the 2 tags either side and jiggle it back/forth to remove it. It has 4 spade terminals that go funky from water. Common issue. Spray some wd40 and connect/disconnect to clean it. Your main power supply the bike travels from this plug. This will fix you issue.
