Fitted one of these. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Motorcyc...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 Small enough to hide in the tool box and only a couple of wires to connect. Plenty loud too. I think they would work well in some suburbs of Newcastle.
This was actually yesterday, but it's been a bit of a crazy week! My husband 'helped' me transfer my panda horn from Bikelette last week (it just said 'bike horn' on the pack...Bikelette is a bike and Mia is a bike hence it's a totally cromulent horn for my bike)...and broke it in the process. Being awesome, as he is, he found a new one online and replaced her. Woohoo! Installed shiny new panda (right) on Mia and here she is along with a very, very sad panda (in spite of what her face says): I thought while I was (annihilating my bank account) looking at what needed to be fixed on my shiny new bike, I probably wanted to take a look at the air filter. Turns out, there are leaves in there. It's opaque. I think it's approximately 21 years old. Original even. Maybe I should submit it to the Motorcycle Museum at Nabiac?? Serviced every 5,000km, my arse. New air filter added to order. *sigh* Got my new brake pads yesterday too. Looking at some Hel brake lines and new piston seals just in case. Finally noticed an email from...errr...a week ago today about possibly a new fuel lid and seat. So with any luck, it will shortly be gaff-monstrosity, begone! Hopefully, I'll have a very fun weekend, full of shiny new parts, in store for me.
Picked up this zxr250 on Saturday night @Phil spent the day working on this zxr, carbs stripped and cleaned rhen refitted, then we attempted to start it , petrol came out the exhaust so stropped very quickly and pulled the exhaust headers off and drained the excess fuel. We hooked up the tank , and attempted to start it then a massive pool of fuel ended up on the floor , turned it off and started shaking our heads trying to work out where it was coming from . Tank and air box were taken off and we started it again, fuel was bubbling out of the crankcase breather, oh **** , another clean up and then we thought we should dump the oil, well I'm. Not sure you could call it oil as we managed to drain over 4l of fuel from the sump plug , Phil replaced that with oil, and started her up , she now she purrs like a kitten. I dare say the petcock was left on prime hence why she was full of fuel. Needs some new tyres and the rear caliber fixed then she is ready for rego
@kiffsta Get your self some Dunlop GPR300's or better yet Alpha 13's, but I'm sure you already knew that
Yes!! Winner is me! Some dude outside Austin, TX was breaking a ZXR250a. How? Why? No idea. Had brake rotors AND the airbox I needed, and I didn't have to wait on international shipping! 270 dollars later...I'm broke, but happy.
What have I done to my bike today? Well, not today, over the last couple of weeks. This is a long story, so skip it if you're pressed for time. I've been working on my drag bike in between attending college and it's been an interesting couple of weeks. I normally run the bike without an airbox (carbs have airbox inlet trumpets on them) and a stumpy muffler (the original muffler chopped in half). I've found this to be the quickest configuration for drag racing, but on advice from someone with lots of experience, I put the muffler back on and also the airbox (I effing hate these ZXR airboxes). The muffler needed some custom brackets to hold the cutoff bit in place (the silver bit in the pic) and the airboxes on these things don't lineup too well, so I was told to drill out the carb bolt holes a bit so I could wriggle the box around to get it as close as possible. Even with drilling it's still not great with 2mm lips and edges. Any of you playing at home will know that before my last testing session I rejetted the carbs with slightly bigger jets and fitted Iridium plugs for the first time. New leads and valve clearances also done to get everything shmick. At that drag test & tune, the bike wasn't running the muffler and airbox, but wasn't running right either. It felt like it was fuelling up. Anyhoot, back at the workshop, I changed the jets back down and synced the carbs and added said muffler and airbox. No testing session for over a month, so went up to a country drag strip (300km from Melbourne) to take on the locals. What an abortion. The bike had revved cleanly on the workplatform and even a quick squirt the night before the meet around the block to 14,000rpm (it was raining) went okay. The story goes South from here. At the drags: I line up against a GSXR1000 in the first round of heads up quali and I'm off...until the bike gets to about 14,000-15,000rpm and dies. I change into second and now the GSXR goes around me. 2nd gear doesn't even make it to 13,000rpm and now I'm pissed. I'm thinking fuel...why? The day before I'd noticed a fuel leak and running out of time I could only fix it by removing the fuel filter and putting in a direct line from the petcock to the carbs. There's no backfiring or missing so I'm thinking some muck has gotten into the carbs. I line up for my 2nd quali run (against a HD of all things!). It revs fine in neutral and with the clutch in, but as soon as it gets to 13-14,000rpm it dies again. I had thought the vacuum might be playing up in the petcock, so I set the fuel to PRIME for that run, but no effect. So, I ride the bike straight to the pits and load it onto the trailer. I tell the organisers I won't be competing in the elimination rounds and eff off back to Melbourne. Back at the workshop I pull the tank off and remove the petcock and flush out the tank. A bit of muck, but nothing to write home about. I pull the carbs apart and there's no muck in the individual fuel valves...WTF? So, back on go the carbs and with test tank attached I attempt to run it and see what is going on. The bike wouldn't even start...Eff, Eff, Eff, Eff After a cup of tea I decide to check the coils and leads as the iridium plugs I installed were installed to eliminate plug fouling. I test the coils and leads by removing each lead and using a fifth plug (I leave the Iridiums in place). The fifth plug registers fine for all leads and coils, so now I'm getting suspicious and a few of you may have already guessed the culprit. I pull the plugs out and 2 of them are not firing. I put an old set of standard plugs in, hook everything up and bike starts first press of the starter. I sync the carbs and now I'm ready for a test spurt around the block (tomorrow). If anyone knows someone who works for NGK, please tell them I have a set of Iridium plugs that have done 10 runs down a drag strip and 2 of them are rooted! I've learned a valuable lesson from this episode...Don't assume anything.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck at the drag strip I'd be taking a very close look at those plugs to see if anything is amiss (pardon the pun)
I'll take a few pics when I get a chance and upload them for all to enjoy. The thing that really grinds my gears is that they worked fine the first time I ran them. I'll just fit a new set of normal plugs before the next test session.
Hmmmm this is the 2nd post on forums Ive seen in as many weeks re NGK plug issues...might be a bad batch or just one of those silly coincidence's...the other was car related... Back in the 80's I worked part time at a m/c repairer, we had a bad batch of plugs after a few weeks of finger pointing and head scratching we finally worked out that it was the plugs. The wholesaler had said that the aus shipment container had been dropped at the docks since then Ive always popped the old plugs in the glove box for a few weeks just in case
I've never run them before, so can't comment either way. All I know is the effing things failed at exactly what they're supposed to fix. Video if anyone is interested...
"I'll finish off that DR350 this morning," I says to myself, "and then I can work in the uni stuff in the afternoon." The morning was partly hijacked when I got caught up painting a fence (turns out my brother was having an open house on a house he hadn't finished building). Finally back to the DR: sure, it starts and runs, it's stopping that's the issue. So, we need to change the front wheel/brake rotor/tyre/tube and the leaky forks, clean up the brake pads, too. Forks were easy, stripping 2 tyres to get a repairable tube was not so easy, especially when you can't find the other tyre lever. Then I get a phone call about the uni assignment, there goes an hour. Back to the bike, as the sun is setting. Front wheel done, but the brake pistons won't return... Now, it is possible I have made an error, but I think the leaking fork oil has caused the brake seals to swell and jam. Gave up, getting dark, had a trivia night to attend. Good news there, I won a special round and our team won the night. Now I'm doing the assignment, as evidence by my procrastinating posting to this forum! Sigh. Also, I seem to have found cheaper freight for the VTR from Cairns! I was trying to fix the DR to sell it and pay for the VTR freight and fixing up. One day at a time.
My intention was a complete oil & coolant change today. We started cleaning out the shed to make space to work on Mia...and suddenly it was night. Dammit. Did put a new saddle on my other bike. Don't worry, my dog clearly thought I was sad too...
Today was a rainy day here in WA...... My paddock stand arrived on Friday so...... Time to spin some spanners on the ZXR. New Metal Gear rear disk & rear pads fitted Carbs off (again!) to fix a cracked vacuum fitting Sexy! Coerce rearsets fitted New indicators fitted all round Chain guard extended for licensing Rear reflector added & fender extended (had been shortened by previous owner)
So yeah. It was a good day. For seven months I've been fighting with the state of Washington to let me register my silly little bike. Today they finally let me. I've put 1400km on this bike in the last month or so since I put it on the dyno. For those miles and the 7 months prior, it was still on plates in someone else's name from another state. I had to define everything about the bike to the department of licensing to put it in our computers. It's not much, but it's a HUGE VICTORY to me. Also still fighting the insurance adjusters on the ducati- I took it on myself to get a dial indicator and figure out exactly how bent everything is, and find out what I can reuse. Ugh. 2 of 3 bikes are in pieces now!
