Started back on the SRX today... sorted out some bits and pieces in the Garage and then attacked the frame to get out the old headstock bearing cups. Obviously Yamaha didnt expect anyone to ever want to get them out so they didnt put any reliefs in so you can tap them out. I had to bring the Dremel into action... they slice easily so it didnt take too long. But eventually the 38 degree heat got to me so the pool looked to be a good option Cooler tomorrow so we will see what I can get done.
Thanks Phil. Looks better in the pic than in real life, but it'll do. @Linkin you will get to see and hear the megacycle exhaust if you're at the drags in Gunnedah. I'm leaving this bike in Tamworth and coming back to ride it at the drags.
the good doctor looked at the fzr.cooling problem due to fan not coming on andsome small bubbles in radiator. stator and rectifier not working.after gunnedah drags another head being fitted.if it blows at the drags might run the cbx supersport but really want to compete on a 250.
You don't need the stator or the RR for drag racing as long as your battery has charge you'll be fine. Overheating shouldn't be an issue either. Just start it and run it.
Trouble is with no recharging of the battery and with headlights on and fan running continuously I only got 13 minutes of running time before battery lost power to run engine, so needs to be recharged. Could run without lights, but still need the fan to stop the over heating. Still has to do some more miles on the road to run the engine in.
Well I am waiting for the Argon regulator and adaptor for my TIG so I can start to play with it before attacking the SRX frame with it so I decided to have a look at the rear shocks on the CB400.. or more specifically the LHS rear that is close to the chain... The chain guard has been cut up (butchered) to clear the bottom of the shock and when I took the shocker off I found out what the grinding noise was when rolling the bike along (no I havent ridden it ). Seems these shocks are not meant for the CB400 lol. The chain has done a very nice job of grinding away the bottom spring perch that is what is used to adjust pre-load. Glad I bought those new shocks... they clear the chain easily, so now i just need to find another chain guard. I also took the tank off... seems the lovely wasps nest didnt bother the coil pack as it ran fine.. I also checked on my exhaust headers to try and see if they were originals.. they dont appear to be double skinned down pipes so I am guessing they are not original plus there is a large hole in one of the headers near the head.. not sure if it shows up too well in this pic Maybe I will do some more tomorrow as it is too hot out there today... well too steamy at least...
Just had a delivery of some fresh air ducts for my zxr250 from greyimportspares.com @Mr_Muddle $109 for the pair delivered Great service
Thats about what they cost me as well. Now turf the original reg/rec and get a shindengen fh020aa or sh847
I was going to see if I could get old vacuum cleaner hose to make some. And I'm going to rewire a zzr250 reg-rec for mine. Because I'm that cheap.
That's gold ShaneP. When I do this sort of thing, I'm told I'm a tight-arse. It's repurposing damnit! No one ever told McGivor he was cheap, haha. I found some new and very cool 'vacuum cleaner hose' offcuts at my local Clark Rubber which I used on one of my FZRs to see if it would run ok. They were bright blue but cost me stuff all.
worked on the honda 350 that dropped a cylinder half way home from tamworth.chewed a plug so digested some metal.filled one exhaust with oil. new electronic ignition worked perfectly and no points to fail.bike was revving to 9 thou.
New screen for the zxr arrived at work today, box was crushed... not impressed auspost. Thankfully the screen was fine... but it doesn't fit, not even close... sigh... But I did get the gear selector bit from megazip which did fit, and both sets of spark plug seals (cams out for that one, left it for another day)
I took my fuel cap off and pulled it apart today to fix the broken key flap spring. I found a decent replacement stainless spring for it inside an old Toyota distributor cap, the one that spring load's the carbon contact for the rotor button. Cut the spring down so it had 3 coil's and rewound it a little tighter, then modified it to fit the cap. Got it all back together and it's working again just like a new one. It was a small accomplishment, but it has fixed the annoying little rattle it used to have sometime's, and just knowing it wasn't working properly wasn't a good thing either
I sold the zzr600 a little while ago, lasted only a couple of days before buying another bike (yz250f,2011) for a grand, needs another grand spent on it. But I already had half a dozen projects on the go, so I took a couple of days off to get some work done - should have gone on a holiday. Not much got done. Every step forward seemed to lead to another problem to fix... GZ250 and zxr250 are still ongoing, across untouched, as is the wr250f, yz250f, dr350 (both of them), xr200... Sigh.
the old cb is is 46 years old and done 20k genuine. has been ridden hard and ater a pull down and rebuild will go harder. ingested something like a plug earth or similar and will only know when fully stripped. was a big weekend and will be bigger at the drags.
Sold my cruiser so I now do not have anything registered , time to go bike shopping Started prepping the zxr250 for Texas, carbs given a once over and I found that I need airbox seals which I have now ordered , new plugs , new air ducts fitted , brake shave been bled and tomorrow I will fit some new Dunlop gpr300’s , then rego next week
